Anyone else back the JetKVM Kickstarter? Mine arrived this week, before they even sent me tracking info. It has turned into a very nice little device - see documentation.

In NZ$, the original goal was approx NZ$89,400. They achieved approx NZ$4,812,000. Retail price will be around NZ$124.00

I saw them when they am  out and got interested, but then forgot about them.

How does it work.
How can you use it to connect to say three devices, one with Irdac, two without any management style features.

Does it need something installed on the device? which means it will only work when they are booted into the OS, and not during boot (which is when KVM is most useful).

You need one KVM per computer and nothing needs to be installed on or in the computer being controlled. It looks like there will be add-ons available to connect to the pin headers in your computer for power control, but as with a normal KVM, these aren't required.

I'd be more interested if they added an option for an internal version on a PCI-E card.

Nice! But I had already built a PiKVM half a year ago and equipped it with an el cheapo chinese 4-way KVM multiplexer, i.e. I can also switch the one PiKVM remotely between 4 different servers in the rack.

I take it you've been quite satisfied with it then? I finished a server rebuild this weekend and decided to go with consumer-grade hardware. I'm thrilled with it overall, but I rather miss having an iDRAC for remote management stuff haha. I don't really need to interact with the hardware so long as the system boots and SSH works, but I do want something more robust for remote management in case anything goes sour, and I've been strongly considering JetKVM for several days now.

We also got my partner's rig set up with a smart power plug yesterday to enable remote power-on, but again, something more robust could be ideal if there's ever a situation where it doesn't simply boot into the OS right away.
