Hi,

This could be a very simple question.
I want to buy a region A bluray to play on my Panasonic bd60.
I had it zapped at the shop so it can play my DVDs from America but will it play different zone blurays?

Not usually. Most DVD players can be made region free via a code or the like but the MPAA and Sony made sure that it couldn't be done easily with Blu-ray. You can for a $1000 + buy in NZ a Oppo BD player that is region free for everything..

But can you change the blu-ray region on a cheap Toshiba or Veon to play a Region A/1 zone permanently?

Yes :)

It works on both... specifically the Toshiba BDX3200KY, not sure of the Veon model number. If the Toshiba doesn't do it out of the box then install this.

Audiosonic Blu ray players from Kmart and the Laser brand Blu ray players from PB Tech and wiseguys.co.nz (et al.) are also all blu ray region switchable using the "8520" trick.

Every player can be unlocked to play everything forever. You just need the correct code or file.

Whilst true in theory, it's not always easy to obtain the needed code or file - let alone hardware chip - or to implement it... at least not as easy as the cheapo players listed above, whici is effectively just a setting in the menu.

But as a test of your theory, can you help a brother out with a blu ray region-free hack for the Panasonic DMP-BD85 which doesn't involve registering with firmwareinfo.com or paying for a hardware chip?

A few months ago I found a BDX3200KY in JB, it was a promo unit with free HDMI cable and a 3D BD with sharks.
