Just an early heads-up that I've been arranging an Auckland headphones meet. There will be a wide selection of gear there with high-end headphones from Sennheiser, HiFiMan, Beyerdynamic, Audeze, AKG, Grado and more.

Billy from Computer Lounge will be bringing his extensive personal collection of top of the line headphones and amps, as well as showing a range of other things available for purchase at his store. A number of enthusiasts with fairly extensive collections like myself will also be showing our gear there. There is also some discussion occurring with a couple of major brands who may have a presence there to exhibit their wares.

UPDATE: Audio Reference will be in attendance now also guys smily_headphones1.gif

They'll be bringing a range of high-end stuff for our listening pleasure (headphone gear, they do specialise in speaker-fi to obit that is beyond the scope of this event). I'm especially keen to hear the Chord Hugo, which I believe they will have by then.

This is a NZ first, and in this country a very rare opportunity to hear all of these headphones - particularly those from more boutique brands like HiFiMan and Audeze.

The meet will be held Saturday the 24th of May at the Fickling Convention Centre (Hillsborough Room) in Three Kings in Auckland (see in Google Maps).

Nice clean modern venue with very ample parking (somewhat of a rarity in Auckland) and some nice amenities like cafe and pub nearby.

Now that time and place are confirmed, and there is a more solid platform to build on I can launch into the next stages of planning.

Naturally I will keep you informed of further developments as they take shape.

For any who are also members at Head-Fi there is a thread with some discussion happening here.

Excellent, be good to have you along. I suggest incarcerating your wallet on the day and for the next week or two afterwards.

Can safely say this will be worth making the trip.

You run a headphones website, but you won't travel for this?

Sometimes I wonder if you really like headphones at all! :p

I still use headphones at work, as I always have, I made the site as more of a community resource but it's gone done a lot recently. It was #1 in google for many years, now it's half way down page 2 and traffic has plummeted, so I can't afford the redevelopment I had planned.

Plus I have my wedding my brothers overseas weddings coming up, so not keen on unnecessary expenses right now!

No worries man, the smiley was meant to indicate I was just teasing. Hope you can make it - keep an eye out for cheap flights!

I think hearing tests might be beyond the scope of the meet, but it's not a terrible idea by any means...

Looks like another high-end audio store will be exhibiting at the meet. Growing larger by the minute. Hopefully confirm later today.

Oooh tempting!

Sadly anything which will end in me telling my wife I need to upgrade from my trusty Grado 325is' will probably be vetoed...

:(

Still - Would love to get a go on the Audeze range.

Quite interested; I assume it'll be worth coming for non-(or noob) audiophiles, even if just to dream? ;-)

Definitely come anyways :)

If you like Grado I suspect HiFiMan's offerings at the higher end would be more to your ears liking though.
