I'm just about to purchase a Hauppauge Nova T 500 for my PVR. For those that aren't aware this is a dual tuner DVB-T card.

A quick look online indicates that two models are available in NZ with identical pricing, there is a Hauppauge Nova T 500 HD and Hauppauge Nova T 500 MCE.

Does anybody know the difference at all between these two models?

Interesting question...

I too am planning on including this component in my new HTPC build, and had noticed the 'HD' model on some of the limited NZ retailer websites that have this product available, but figured it was just the same as that on the Hauppauge website, as it lists only 1 version of the Nova T 500 available...

I would asume its nothing more than marketing speak, and the two are the same model...but I am just guessing.

Hmmmm...I really want to know the answer to this now...

I see the two different models....the MCE being: UPC01158 and the HD being: UPC00298
Yet the Hauppauge website says nothing about this, and only lists one model, just called the Nova T 500...not HD or MCE...

It is interesting to find that every site I have seen that lists both models, have the exact same price for both, yet list different availability dates?

I will keep searching for the answer, unless found and posted here prior.

Could it be something to do with the packaging???
Or the drivers/software that are supplied with them???

I know other MCE Hauppauge cards, in the past. have come in a plain white box with only MCE drivers and no other TV software as they are ment for OEM builders.
They have usually been a bit cheaper though than the other versions of the same card so hmm.....

Possibly.....

It appears they are the same hardware, but the MCE version does not include an MPEG decoder....as the Windows MCE OS has one pre-installed....

My suspicion was that the MCE version would be a white box and the HD version a retail box that came with a remote. If that's the case it doesn't explain why they are the same price!

I believe Ingram are the distributors in NZ so I might have to find out from them.

From Ingram's website, their part numbers are only different by the letter O or R - maybe Retail or OEM? And of course the Hauppauge code, everything else is the same.

Text is as follows:

Looks like they order the "O" (MCE) in as required, but have 4 in stock of the "R" (HD) one and more on order. The "R" is in stock and "HD" so that'd be the one to order I'd assume :-)

I wonder when Hauppauge will start supporting H.264 transmissions with their own WinTV software?

There are potentially going to be a few annoyed people in NZ buying a unit such as the Nova T that is labelled as a "Freeview digital DVB-T receiver for PC" but is incompatible that doesn't work with the Hauppauge software or XP/Vista MCE.

sub (GB-PVR author) has given me the opportunity to test the upcoming GB-PVR release and the AAC audio is working brilliantly. Unfortunately upscaled 720p still doesn't make Dancing with the Stars any more watchable! :-)

If expressnet.co.nz know the answer, they aren't telling...they have both models listed on their website (with identical pricing, as you say), but although I emailed them (2 1/2 weeks ago) to ask what the difference was, they haven't responded.
