Hi,

I've set up my motherboard and Windows (see signature for details) to use Standby mode.  The PC will go into standby after 20 minutes of idle or if I press the sleep button on my keyboard.  It appears to be going into standby correctly as Windows says "Preparing to Standby" and the computer turns off after a couple of seconds.  When I press the power button on my MCE remote or on the case the computer comes to life but rather than resuming into windows it does a restart.

Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?  As far as I can tell I have the bios setup correctly.

Thanks
Andy

I had trouble resuming from sleep when I had Gigabytes hardware monitoring software installed. Once all of that was uninstalled it worked fine. This was the case for both XP SP3 and Vista Ultimate SP1.

Thanks Little,

Not sure if I have the Gigabyte hardware monitor installed but I'll look into it tonight.

Thanks
Andrew

EasyTune 6

Hope that helps :).

Unfortunately I didn't have any of the Gigabyte software installed so no luck there.

Andrew,

I'm really sorry to hear about your HTPC issues. But I'm afraid the news is probably not what you wanted hear.

I, too, had issues with standby resumption issues -not the same as yours, though- with the exact same CPU & Gigabyte mobo, but different model: GA-M56S-S3. Nothing I tried worked. I eventually gave up & traded to Intel. Here are the threads for your perusal. I hope you can sort it out; but if not, don't waste too much time on the issue. It can get the best of one: I knowCry

Take specific note of the last thread in the bottom post, regarding working with another CPU.

Thanks for the info 1gkar (despite the bad news).  I've raised a ticket with Gigabyte to see what they have to say.  And in the meantime I'll keep searching for a solution.

Thanks
Andy

Sleep / Hibernation appear to work correctly for my setup, but I cannot use them, and I will explain why, maybe you have a workaound...

I have MP set to start with Windows. When I reboot the computer, all is OK, MP starts up and goes strainght into fullscreen live TV, last channel I was watching before shutdown. I have the TV server to turn pc to sleep after 2minutes.

Problems started to rise when I wanted to use PowerScheduler plugin.
After reboot and watching tv or a starting a recording, computer goes to sleep when recording is completed, but when it wakes up from S3 state for the next recording, MP displays "unable to start graph", and then nothing happens. If the client does nothing for 2 minutes, TV server is set to switch PC back into sleep (S3). But there is a recording scheduled, so for the whole duration of that scheduled recording, the PC switches on and off, unable to record due to the error message.

When the time for the scheduled recording expires, all is fine, computer stays in sleep state until the next scheduled recording, when it starts to turn on/off every 3-4 minutes, as described above.

Any ideas why this is happening? I would like to use the PowerScheduler plugin, many people reported it works.
I found a plugin able to turn the pc off after 60 min or 120 min, and I use that if the recording extends up to 1h or 2h after I do not watch tv anymore. If the recording extends more than 2 h after "bed time", I have to let the pc running all night... and I would like to avoid doing that.

Hi Aucklander,

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is in the config for the TV-server part of the PowerScheduler plugin.  Go into the Advanced tab and check "Reinitialize service on wakeup (also reinitialized tuner)", if you don't have it checked already.  It's a long shot, but it's possible that your tuner is not waking up properly and that is what is breaking the graph.

Good luck
Andy

One thing you could try is a little nugget of an app called MCE Standby. It even has a tab for Mediaportal. I might retry it in the near future as my HTPC occasionally won't resume with my MCE remote & have to walk to the case. it only has occurred since I upgraded to MP RC2.
