Hope you don't mind but 2 Q's about your Sony Android TV:

 

1. Does it have a Voice Guidance/assistance option? ie. When you change channel or volume you receive audio feedback telling you volume level/channel name.
2. Re-order Freeview channels? eg. swap 4 Bravo for 10 Prime

Do not buy a TCL Android TV for any reason. Mine has os many issues, and the joy of being able to choose which issues you prefer, depending on the firmware you upgrade to. I gave it some time to fix things up and never got anywhere - I consider weekly if I should go back to JB Hifi and have the row required to return or swap it.

It'll depend on the model. The Sony LCDs with VA panels will have much better contrast than the models with IPS panels. Sony does OLEDs too.

I’m looking at entry level Sony 4K like the KD65X8000G

I got a KD65X8000G in August and it’s great. YouTube and Netflix apps work great. Mostly used as my HTPC with my Mac mini, works very well. Can definitely recommend as a reasonably priced big screen.

Been using Sony X95 for couple of months, the performance is more than adequate and PQ is top level. 

Kodi, Moonlight, Steam link, Netflix, etc and overall works great. 

However there's a couple of audio cutout issues with AV receiver that I'm still dealing with.

I've got nothing BAD to say about my TCL android TV, apart from fast boot not working as expected (not everytime).

yes it has cheaper LCD screen, but been 2-3 times cheaper option - I would buy again.

Just beware the X8000g is an IPS frame-dimming TV, so while it will have good viewing angles, it will suffer for any black color looking gray and washed-out as well as terrible back-light blooming. Great for sport, arse for movies/darker lit TV shows. Unfortunately there isn't much else to choose from around that price (~$1.5k) unless you want to spend just under twice that for a x950g or over for an OLED.

I would also take a look at the Panasonic GX740Z, or the GX880Z depending on your budget. Both support Dolby Vision/HDR10+ and come with Panasonic's HCX (Pro on the 880) processor, which is one of the better implementations around. Panasonic's LCD lineup is exclusively IPS and most likely edge-lit, as well as it is hard to decipher their specs for refresh rates, but I would consider both superior to the Sony. The drawback would be the proprietary OS, but the people around here that have bought them don't seem to have issues with it.

Is there a reason you're set on an Android TV?

They definitely are a love it or hate it type product (I fall into the hate it category and would never buy a Sony because they use Android TV despite their OLED being great) and I wouldn't want anybody to jump into one unless they fully understand this.
