About 2 weeks ago and then again this afternoon there was a strange glitch with my tv. When I used the remote to switch it on it went from RED(Standby) to complete Off. Dead as a dodo. Checked the main fuses..OK. Switched off/on at the mains outlet...nothing. Unpluged from the mains, plugged back in again, off/on a few times and eventually RED (standby) and remote switches it on.

Is there some setting that I've missed like power saving? But it's frustrating to go thro' all the fiddling to get it back on again.

I don't know the exact answer, but if this is a modern TV they are basically a computer, and can sometimes lose it's way.  In the past I have been told by a TV service agent that to properly re-set it, disconnect it from the power and then push and hold the power button down to make sure any power still in the system can dissipate.  Then try powering on again.  It has always worked for me when a TV just seems a bit glitchy, maybe it would help in your situation?

Thanks for your reply. Maybe that's how I've been getting it to power up again, just random switching it off/ unplugging from the socket and pushing the ON/Off switch on the tv...I didn't even know where it was until I looked at the manual😀

TVs should work fine when turned off and on with the remote. If it's within say 5 years of purchase go back to the retailer and ask for it to be repaired.

The tv is well past its guarantee/warranty. I bought it when I started work as an extra in THE HOBBIT😁

I have had this issue with a couple of Panasonic tv (I may have been a big Pany plasma fangirl). Can be sunlight on the sensor, and can be it faulting. Check firmware is the latest. Also, look to see if it has a lot of dust inside near the fans. The suggestion for hard reset above is a good one as well.

On a slightly more technical response, I brought a TV for my son to use with his xbox, worked fine for ages then started to randomly power off, and when powered on would boot loop with at the logo stage, but only sometimes.  Now cause I know how to use a screwdriver, the first logical step to fixing this was to pull it apart 😊, (ensuring it was unplugged of course).

Actually, turned out to a simple fix, as it was quickly discovered that there was a series of dry solder joints on the power supply, I resoldered these, and the TV has not missed a beat since (despite various attempts by my son to kill it in frustration at the game he’s losing…)

Would not recommend this unless you have a basic knowledge of electronics, and even then, as you're playing with mains power, always, always treat it as live at all times.
