That blows my mind, watching 480p on a large screen is just horrible.
But maybe there's a huge audience still on old TVs and DVD players out there??
It seems that Disney will be releasing Inside Out 2 4K in SteelBook format only. Amazon have it up for Pre-order, but there are no Standard Edition 4K options available. Sony have taken over the distribution of Disney physical media titles, and I expect this is going to be the future for Disney 4K film collector's... SteelBook for the 4K collector's and Blu-ray/DVD combos for the masses.
The release Date is September 10th:
Disney and Pixar's Inside Out 2 returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who've long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren't sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she's not alone. Maya Hawke lends her voice to Anxiety, alongside Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, Tony Hale as Fear, and Liza Lapira as Disgust. Directed by Kelsey Mann and produced by Mark Nielsen.

The above post is a perfect example of why I am defecting totally to iTunes/Apple TV Store for Disney titles.

Sounds like a convenient way to charge more for the same disk content, vs regular 4K packaging...
But hey it will mean a bigger bonus for the marketing department this quarter
Guff: Yeah that's true. I've seen some pie graphs of sales of physical media and DVD still dominant. That blows my mind, watching 480p on a large screen is just horrible. But maybe there's a huge audience still on old TVs and DVD players out there??
I agree, it blows my mind too. But I think people who aren't that interested in film don't really get bothered about the picture unless it's really blocky or having playback issues (buffering or disc skipping). I know multiple people that have the SD Netflix plan to watch on their brand new 4K TV's and unless there's buffering issues think happy days.

I think this is an example of the 4K market moving into the niche "collectors" market. Higher prices and more limited options, but trying to appeal to a smaller demographic of people who would pay the higher price for a "collectors" item. I will admit I am a sucker for a nice Steelbook and like to collect them myself.
I have over 350 SteelBooks, but many of them are quite plain with no redeeming features. I only collected SteelBooks at one time, until I saw how silly it was to buy films just because they have a SteelBook case. But some of the premium Steels with embossing/debossing and with a glossy finish, are a thing of beauty.

Wow that is a decent haul! I have about 70 myself but try and be more selective these days with the prices and as you say, the lack of effort put into the design for a lot of them. I noticed JBNZ has put the prices of some of the new steels up too, was interested in The Fall Guy but @ $65 for the steel I'll wait for a sale or grab it on iTunes.

I'm going to purchase all of the Disney/Pixar/Marvel import films from the Apple TV Store in future. I can get Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes for $19.99 at present and it will be offered cheaper than that at some stage. I just picked up the Alien Quadrilogy which includes James Cameron's 2023 remaster of Aliens. The bundle cost $24.99. It won't be long before Alien: Romulus will also be available at $19.99/$24.99 and Inside Out 2 is expected on August 27th at $24.99. Add to that Deadpool & Wolverine and the savings over physical media importing is huge. I'm still buying physical media, but my importing days are over.
All of the Disney related releases have got Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos on board and the slight improvement on physical just doesn't make it worth the money. I realise that this is what the studios are pushing for, but it just seems like a no brainer to me, especially if you are on a limited budget.
Honestly I'm leaning towards the same. Is there any word about JBNZ importing any of these titles?
I've not been able to contact the JBNZ buyer, so I can't say.

Paramount Pictures US are to release a 4K SteelBook Edition of the classic comedy film; Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987), starring Steve Martin and John Candy. The release date is November 12th and the SteelBook has the same artwork used on the Blu-ray SteelBook release of 2021. Available for Pre-order from Amazon US.
The SteelBook will house both a 4K Ultra HD disc and a Blu-ray. Dolby Vision/DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 are on board. The film has a run time of 92 minutes.
One of the most outrageous and beloved comedies of all time looks better than ever on remastered 4K UHD with HDR-10 and Dolby Vision. Steve Martin and John Candy star in this hysterical (and often heartwarming) tale of travel gone awry. Neal Page (Martin) is an uptight ad exec trying to get home to Chicago for Thanksgiving with his family. When rerouted to Wichita, Neal reluctantly partners with Del Griffith (Candy), an obnoxious yet loveable salesman. Together, they embark on a cross-country adventure that includes multiple modes of transportation, unbelievable mishaps, intimate motel accommodations, and unforgettable rental car shenanigans. It’s a must-have holiday gift from writer, director, and producer John Hughes.

I don't know if we have any horror fans in this thread, but Lionsgate US are releasing Imaginary (2024) in SteelBook format on October 1st. It seems a little strange that this title is getting a 4K release at all, especially a SteelBook release. It was classed as rotten by both critics and audience on Rotten Tomatoes. The worldwide box-office take was US$43 Million. which is a money making total for this type of budget film.
4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray, with Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos on board. Run time is 104 minutes. Pre-order from Amazon US.
From Blumhouse, the genre-defining masterminds behind FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S and M3GAN, comes an original horror that taps into the innocence of imaginary friends -- and begs the question: Are they really figments of childhood imagination or is something more terrifying lying just beneath? When Jessica (DeWanda Wise) moves back into her childhood home with her family, her youngest stepdaughter Alice (Pyper Braun) develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey she finds in the basement. Alice starts playing games with Chauncey that begin playful and become increasingly sinister. As Alice's behavior becomes more and more concerning, Jessica intervenes only to realize Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believed him to be.

Australian e-tailor Sanity; whom we don't normally discuss in this thread, have a decent 30% off 4K Ultra HD titles sale. Mad Max: Fury Road for A$10.49 being an example.
