Yes, its usually cheaper to import yourself rather than buy an import from JBNZ. All of the previous Disney titles that they have imported have also been much dearer than importing them yourself.

Some people (for whatever reason)  prefer not to import, and are happy to pay the excessive JBNZ prices.

Got given a $10 off code for my order being delayed so just ordered 3 more movies!

The Lost Boys
The Goonies
The Maltese Falcon

Really need to stop now. I saw that on the JB NZ website there is a live chat option, "Ask for a JB deal," so I tried it because there were a couple of titles I wanted that weren't included in the B2G1 free on the Aus site, and the guy gave me these two for $19 each, down from $25, down from $31.

The Fugitive
Enter The Dragon

Really frustrates me these $93 "Collectors editions" that are just a steelbook and a bunch of paper knick knacks you will look at once and then never again. I just want the steelbook for like $50.

Many collector's are complaining about studios price gouging in Australia and NZ. Importing is also becoming a rich man's game and we need to look for free shipping offers, which can make a significant difference to the total cost.

Studios, especially Disney, have been trying to push consumers toward their streaming platforms, and then I take a look at the Apple Store prices this Black Friday weekend and see that many recent releases are being offered for $9.99.

An example is the Disney/Pixar film ELEMENTAL (2023) which was not available to we Kiwi's in 4K. We couldn't even import it as it was a Disney Movie Club exclusive. I finally picked it up yesterday for $9.99 from the Apple Store. It includes Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos and an extras package for those who are interested in extras (not me).

I hate to be forced to become a digital collector by the studios, but its just getting too expensive to buy physical media.

BAD BOYS: Ride or Die [JBNZ - $42.98 sale price] and A QUIET PLACE: Day One [JBNZ - $47.98 sale price] are both priced at $9.99 at the Apple Store, and include all of the bells and whistles, which makes it difficult to support our physical media options.

People have pointed out to me in the past that with physical we get the Blu-ray included, but unless we are prepared to pay the premium price for a SteelBook release, we don't get a Blu-ray anymore.

There has always been the argument that we don't actually own our digital films, and that is true. Another argument for physical, is that we could lose our digital libraries if/when the studios withdraw their licences from providers, but, many collector's on other forums have got literally thousands of films in their digital libraries, and have yet to have any deleted.

Methinks that its time for me to re-evaluate my future movie purchasing options.

100% agree mate. I've switched to digital purchases due to rising physical media costs. Recently cancelled my Deadpool & Wolverine and Alien steelbook pre-orders that would've cost $92 total with shipping, opting instead for $25 iTunes 4K versions. I only got back into collecting physical stuff last year, but prices have gone crazy in 2024. Unfortunately with both low supply and low demand, we're only going to see prices pushing up. Even Amazon AU's Black Friday "deals" are basically the same as the regular prices last time I looked.

Unfortunately the tactic of the studios is make digital purchases more attractive with cheaper prices, then once enough customers are locked into digital services they'll increase the prices again a la streaming services etc atm.

Welcome to the Weekly 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray & SteelBook Release Schedule for Friday November 29th.

One new release for New Zealand this week (THE CROW (2024) and nothing for Australia. Next week is an absolutely crazy release schedule; NZ will have 20 items released, whilst Australia will have 29. As we approach Christmas, new releases will dry up. Major titles such as GLADIATOR II, VENOM: THE LAST DANCE and WICKED, won't be released until February/March or even later. The JBNZ and JBAU sales finish on December 2nd and December 1st respectively. Then we can look forward to the Boxing Day sales.

The only additions to the schedule this week are a link to the BEETLEJUICE (1988) SteelBook post, and the inclusion of the DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE JBNZ US Import and link.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Click on the post# links for the individual release information (artwork, specs, etc.) where available. Just click on the link and it should take you to the correct post. Then click on the back arrow to return to the schedule.

Individual film artwork and specs will be posted as soon as ALL info is available  •  Release dates are subject to change  •  New Releases will be displayed for one week after release date.

Some imported Arrow titles are available at various JBNZ stores, which aren't advertised on their website and so, are not included in this weekly schedule.
