Hi, wife kindly bought me the 55" 4K Veon yesterday (SRO554K2017-P6) and TWH is currently throwing in a Chromecast Ultra with the TV!

 

Very happy so far - I know a few people said the P6 had a tacky bezel but I dont think it looks bad at all.

 

Was wondering if anybody had tweaked the sound/video settings and whether they would share what they were using?

My wife kindly bought me the Veon 49 Inch 4K Ultra HD TV SRO494K2017 for my birthday. So far it is the the only electronics she has ever bought me. It was half the sale price at $249 - a customer had returned it and upgraded - and I got the Chromecast Ultra with Warehouse vouchers.

The audio and video are better than expected so we've adjusted nothing so far. It is only used to stream 4k videos.

Just a quick update after 4-months of owning the Veon 4k 75" TV - Still enjoying it as much as we did the day it arrived. Have had no issues, gets used for about 6-hours a day and the picture quality is still great. For anyone considering one, they currently have them for sale online for $2299 with free delivery.

Bought a Veon 49" last weekend, to replace an old Sony Bravia 32" - the Sony had no Freeview seeing it was an analog model from early 2006 or around it... 

Plugged an Amazon Fire TV and picture is not bad, although watching from the sides makes it look washed out - front view is pretty good though and the ATV (original box) is pumping 1080p HD with no problems. Sound is not too bad but could be a lot better, sure.

Not at the same level as the Sony A1 but it's LED and obviously not a smart TV at all. On the other hand we now have built-in Freeview HD (before that it was driven from a HTPC with HDHomeRun).

The EPG is terrible and slow. Recording is only available for the current program, so no scheduling - but again we didn't have built-in Freeview before so not too bad and pretty much whatever we wathc is via the Amazon Fire TV box anyway.

The workmanship is not great - the frame around the panel moves a bit and it's rought, compared to a high end TV. 

I see there's an option for firmware update but can't even find a site for the manufacturer, let alone a source for these "updates" - any pointers?

The 55” Veon 4K model seems to offer a lot of bang for the buck, so I'm interested in feedback from anyone who’s used a console with this (or other similar) model. The blurb on the site claims it’s compatible, but actual user experience is valuable in this situation!

They’d been planning on getting just the standard PS4, but if we were to get such a TV would it be worth forking out a bit more for a Pro to make the most of the 4K? (Assuming it’s fully compatible...)

I have the 65" non smart Veon and run a PS4 Pro through it, works well, handles Netflix 4K well, gaming looks great on GT Sport

I'm looking to purchase the Veon 65in non-smart model - SRO654K2016-P.

Does anyone know if this has an ARC channel to work with a sound bar? Can't see from the pictures online or the manual!

jonathan18: Thanks for feedback re these TVs and consoles; given the 4K resolution, I’m sure it’s worth going for a Pro over standard PS4.

I’m now debating whether it’s worth the additional $250 to get the smart 55”, given this adds the ability to act as a PVR plus gives access to Freeview Plus. I’m assuming, though, the interface is fairly slow?

Perhaps I’m just better to add the Kodi addons to provide for TVNZ OnDemand and Tv3Now on the Amazon Fire, and stick to the dumb 55” model.

The non-smart one has the PVR functions to record from Freeview. Given the dicsussions on other threads about "Smart TV" apps not working after a period of time on high end TV's I would not put any stock in Veon's smart TV software (which is Android AFAIK). I prefer an external device like a Fire TV (which is another device plugged into our one). BTW the Fire stick fits neatly in the HDMI slot with no adaptors/extensions and I power it off the TV (it hasnt grumbled about voltage like it did on my Panasonic).

Very possible, we dont use Freeview (or have an aerial) so I couldnt test it.

BTW speaking of scheduling, I notice the clock on the TV does reset if you use the physical on/off power button on the TV (so no backup battery for the clock).

We use ours with a regular PS4, Chromecast ultra and Xbox one s. The two latter devices run 4k no problems. I'm been very impressed with our 55" one. HDR would be nice but the picture is much better than our previous Panasonic.

I have the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X running on both the 43" version and 65" version. Love the quality, of course no HDR, and some light bleeding here and there. But other than that I am very satisfied with the TV's and their price.

Maybe it expects to get the date/time from the Freeview transmission and can't since you don't have an aerial?

Sound settings I could never find anything worthwhile - get a cheap soundbar and it'll be substantially better.

Video settings - in a fully darkened room, with a letterboxed movie, adjust the backlight percentage down. There was a point, around 40-50 IIRC, where the blacks started increasing to greys very quickly, and there was a point below which the blacks didn't get all that much blacker.

I also bumped the colour up by 5% or so on the one I had.

Have returned it since though.
