I saw that headline too, not sure if there was a problem in manufacturing that makes the rot inevitable? Seems unlikely, as you've both mentioned, care with storage should be enough for them to live long happy lives.

I've got a handful of DVDs from 2001-2005 and they all looked perfect to me.. I even added a couple to the "watch pile" haha.

Terse reply because I'm at JB checkout buying UHDs :)

But yes, have seen rot, even in fairly new discs.

So we now have proof that disc rot is actually a thing 😲

It would seem that rot can be caused by poor mastering, if you have seen rot in fairly new discs.

Rot or visible glue between layers? That was common on early DVDs and even after more than two decades, my disks with visible glue between the layers still read perfectly.

I don't have that particular disc any more. Probably purchased circa 2007 and found unplayable around 2010.

Just letting you guys know that as of today (March 10th), I will no longer be posting new release news or the weekly schedule. I have let it take up far too much of my time, plus as I no longer collect physical media, I prefer to use my time updating and posting in the NZ iTunes Movie Store thread. I am soon to visit the UK for six weeks, and thought that it would be best to quit now.

Happy collecting to you all.

Thanks Movieman! I saw your post the other day and forgot about it until now. I just bought two 4k movies, getting one free while pre-ordering the Sinners steelbook. I had hoped to also buy The Fall 4k in the sale but that's one of the titles they won't ship to NZ unfortunately, which I was gutted about.

How's everyone's collections going? I've been able to grow it fair bit over the last few months, just today I received the steelbook of A Knight's Tale in the mail. I've managed to add to my collection the 4k steelbook collections of The Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit trilogies, when they were selling cheaper on Zavvi. Here's my collection at Blu-ray.com if anyone's interested.

Missed the JB deal mentioned above, or actually had a browse but couldn't find anything to buy. Then got Dirty Harry at JB NZ 20% off.

Am (almost) definitely going to pounce of Master and Commander when it appears soonish though. Maybe Sean Connery Bond boxset also.

I was surprised how fast those new Clint Eastwood releases (Dirty Harry, Josey Wales and Pale Rider) got snapped up at the Palmy JB Hi-Fi. All were gone before the 20% sale. I took it as a sign to instead grab the US Steelbooks of Dirty Harry and Josey Wales, which were more pricey but looked great and were closer in feel to the old poster art.

Also had the Arrow 4k release of A Fistful of Dollars arrive yesterday. Beautiful edition, looking forward to watching - and will def order the subsequent pictures.
