Anyone got some "recipes" for good movie settings we can use?

That's likely down to them just using cheap LED backlights, just like you get on low price LED monitors.

You will never really be able to calibrate out the blue because they do not give you complex white balance controls, and if they did, it would probably mean the LCD panel itself just needs to shift the image suuuuper warm to compensate.

I’m sure there’s no debate about relative quality between the Veon and TCL (not the band TLC!), but in at least the size I’m looking at there’s also no comparison in terms of price, so it’s not comparing apples with apples.

Eg, cheapest TCL 55” is $1180, and appears to be at the lowest price it’s been (https://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?pu=4581600. So even at the increased cost of $699 for the Veon it’s a big jump to get the TCL.

For our purposes - second tv for the kids to use - it’s hard to justify that extra!

Are you sure it is not true of all base level LCD screens? Pretty sure my samsung and TCL also do the same. Also something to do with the actual encoding perhaps? Don't have OLED to compare the scenes with.

It does not help that pretty much all programs seem to have blue background walls and panels. News and DWTS are some of the culprits.

Here is one example from just now. And the news background, Dance with the Stars... Basically any live program and NZ TVs will put a blue background.

yes i'm just wondering if it is "normal" for LCDs to display that? note that bigger screen might make it more noticable. don't know the answer.

And another "blue program". I am starting to think it's not the TV but the people behind NZ TV programs - they must think "blue" is a special colour or something...

Just bought a 24 inch Veon from The Warehouse for $199.00. As others have commented the colours look pretty darned good for such a cheap tv. I wanted a basic freeview tv with no fancy features to replace a freeview box that died. Very simple to set up - base etc, 5 minute job at most.

While the picture looks fine the tinny speakers are atrocious so I hooked up some little Logitech speakers through the 3.5 mm jack & the sound is really good.

Three year warranty so can't go wrong really.

However, it was a bit of an impulse buy as I have a 240 GB data plan from Skinny & could have got by with that quite well!
