This is brilliant. So much progress in so little time. Well done.

Is there any chance of getting this to work on Aussie Foxtel satellite and cable?

I and a large number of others would be happy to test.

giggles: Hi Guys,

Would really appreciate it if someone with Satellite would like to volunteer to be a tester. We have a new release in testing and need someone else with Satellite to test the new release. Please PM me an email address if you can help.

Expect a new release (v1.0.17) tromorrow which fixes a couple of small issues around exception handling and also a bigger issue around some cards not reporting a 'Signal lock' correctly. Steve has done heaps of work around this issue and looks to have nailed it ;-)

You guys seriously need to open a method for us all to donate "something" towards your efforts. There is no doubt a lot of DVB-T users who will find this totally invaluable ... and then there are those in other countries where a free EPG source isnt possible. This could get real big!! :)

For me on DVB-s it is giving me a longer EPG guide (the Satellite version seemed to give me 7 days or less, depending on when I grabbed it, whereas this appears to give me 8) and if it can bring in extra information (eg Series, Episode info, Actors etc etc etc) then it becomes a fantastic thing.

As to when it is released, well there are still a couple of things and tiding up to do. I don't know about Steve but I certainly don't want anyone to pay for this - this is what open development and Geekzone is all about. Besides, if you paid for it - you might expect it to work or someone to fix your bugs :-)

Steve - any comments?

BSE should provide episode, actor info, etc. I can't wait to get home and start modifying this for Aussie services.

Get paid for this? No way (wife has her hands around my throat at the moment but she'll tire soon).

Seriously though....I had most of the code for it anyway, it just needed massaging into a separate utility.

tbergman: there is no reason this won't work in Oz. The current version may work out of the box and we'd really like someone to try it. Could you try satellite and let us know how it goes and in the meantime we'll look at doing the changes for cable. There are plenty of debugging options that you can turn on if we need them.

thekiwi: there is only basic info in the MHEG data, no cast data for example. That might be accessible via the TV Anytime stuff but I haven't got my head around how that works yet. I have the TV Anytime specs but to be honest it's hard work. If anybody out there knows how it works get in touch.

Time for a new release...

Version 1.0.17 has been released on Sourceforge. This version will dramatically cut the time it takes to collect the EPG data and has a number of fixes/enhancements so recommend upgrading to it (don't forget to backup your INI file!)

- Fix for 'Channel not locked' issue on certain cards
- Fix for Exceptions raised in background threads being lost
- New option in INI file-> "NOLOCK". No lock check, wait 5 seconds instead
- New option to use an MHEG Parameters file for customising your xmltv file (for future use in case of Format change. DO NOT change this unless advised)
The field numbers are the same as the defaults in the code, the field names are fixed.
The first 2 numbers are the number of fields expected in the station header and the number expected in the fixed part of each program.
- New option to re-map / re-name Channels.
Examples:
Station:12456000,1909                      ignores service ID 1909 on freq 12456000
Station:12456000,1909,10                   changes 1909 to 10 in the XMLTV file, name unchanged
Station:12456000,1909,10,Another C4        changes 1909 to 10 and the name to Another C4 in the XMLTV file
Station:12456000,1909,Another C4           changes the name for 1909 to Another C4 in the XMLTV file, service ID unchanged
- Change to default to collecting all data from the first frequency. This cuts down the time taken to collect the data dramatically.
New option to force collection from all frequencies if you encounter issues ('MHEGSINGLE').

The next planned release will include a GUI to allow a wider user base. Let us know if you have issues...

Rename the .pub as .msi (I guess you are renaming to .exe)...

I've conducted some investigation and it seems that this app won't work on Aussie Foxtel systems. our EPG is transmitted using OpenTV not MHEG5.

There is an app called e2_loadepg that pulls down OpenTV data, but it only works on Enigma STU's.

Is there any chance that these two apps can be mated to breed a solution for Aussie users? We're all limited to either Shepherd, xmltvDownload and similar apps. And although these work great, we'd like a facility to be able to get guide data directly from the provider.
