Out of interest, when did you place your order with RS, and did you receive a notification from them to say it had shipped?

Unfortunately, Element14 have not replied to my email yet. I was just going to email them again now.

I registered my interest with RS Components (UK) on Wednesday, 29/02/2012 at 9:09 p.m.

reven: modmypi.com seems to have a shop open now, but they now have "ex tax" on the cases, basically doubling their price....

Just for your interest Reven, I ordered two (one white and one red) and the total came to $45.88 including shipping.
You pay slightly more for the coloured cases.

When did you order your cases?
I was planning on ordering one on the 15th(pay day) as well as the pulse-eight xbmc remote. I'll get a black case since im planning on strapping it to the back of the tv

I see another Raspberry Pi on Trade Me. Only $85 for this one, not so bad.

And if you want to work with the hardware, then Raspberry Pi - first experance is an interesting read.

$85 is a bit steep when you can buy them for $55. But that's supply and demand I guess.

how fast are they?
i mean if i hooked up a laptop drive (can it even power a laptop drive?) with my 150gig music library, how fast would it navigate it.?
what are the video output options?
I have a fair bit of experience at modding XBMC XML filles so i could do that fairly easily. but i am looking for a better/faster navigating unit than my WDTV box which is painfully slow. (im running it in my car and displaying it on the factory LCD screen)

My Raspberry Pi arrived today. Bought a $14 8GB SD Card, and imaged it with the latest RC2 version of Raspbmc. It was up and running in 20 mins. I can even power it with the USB output from my Panasonic TV. Although the only one that works is the one on the side not the two on the back panel.

It is working very well with 1080p mkv's but my 1080p .ts files of recorded NZ Digital Terrestrial TV stutter so I am hoping things will improve as they release new versions.

its no where near as slick as a pc.

having said that its moves quite fine, sluggish when busy (scanning for media or video playing in background, i had to turn this off). but its fine, i forgot how quick a pc was and was surprised when i went back to a full pc. the rasperrbypi navigation is fine, just not super fast (pc is super fast with animations and everything).

im also using raspbmc, was using openelec but switched to see if raspbmc was better, personally i think it is ATM.

ive had some issues with playback on both raspbmc and openelec, raspbmc is better i found. but still my issues are
1. not all formats are supported, i have some 1080p mkvs that wont decode video
2. stutters on some 1080ps
3. stutters after extended playback on some 1080ps
4. menu freezes every once in a while
5. xbmc commander (iphone app) doesnt show cover art
6. some cover art/banners/etc are converted to screwed up when converted to thumbnail
7. i couldnt play any .ts recordings from DVB-S/S2 (but have since add a post processing command to convert all mine to .mp4, so i can live with that).
8. couldnt use a mysql database, every time i went to "set content" it wouldnt save so couldnt scan.
9. uses myvideos63 database and not myvideos64 (which is latest) so even if i used mysql i couldnt share the database

all those i suspect will be fixed in the coming months. i remember having similar issues with the crystal hd card for my original apple tv which all were fixed (davilla is very good, but hes not working on this as far as i know)

on the plus side ive found
1. hulu works fine on it
2. tvnz/tv3 on demand works fine
3. free cable plugin works fine
4. 720ps playback fine
5. boot time is amazing

i might write up a review blog post one day....

also trying to get mugen on it, that would be cool :)

@reven - any chance you can post step by step for installing raspbmc? I got mine and installed debian, worked first time which impressed me but struggling to find a dummies guide on how to get xbmc or raspbmc to go.

1. download raspbmc from http://www.raspbmc.com/ (RC2 link: http://download.raspbmc.com/downloads/bin/ramdistribution/installer-testing.img.gz)
2. in windows, use USB Image Tool (http://www.alexpage.de/usb-image-tool/) to make SD card. NOTE this must be run as administrator (right click on the .exe and select "run as administrator")
3. plug into raspberrypi, your raspberrypi MUST be connected to the internet, turn it on and just wait for the install to complete. it will need to download stuff during install.

not much to it for raspbmc.

cool.
i am mainly wanting to use it as a music player...
all the you tube videos i have seen are of it playing 1 video from a list of 1 video...lame
what i want to see is how it handles a music library. i really like the genre/artist/album way of navigating music.

my wdtv i am currently using is HOPELESS at navigating anything but raw file structures.

anyone tried it with real life music libraries?
