Is it just me or everything on TV overload the blue? When something is nice and colourful the Veon 49" is pretty good but if there's some blue overload... For example Dance with the Stars - their set is atrocious ugly and blue all the way.

Anyone got some "recipes" for good movie settings we can use?

That's likely down to them just using cheap LED backlights, just like you get on low price LED monitors.

You will never really be able to calibrate out the blue because they do not give you complex white balance controls, and if they did, it would probably mean the LCD panel itself just needs to shift the image suuuuper warm to compensate.

Are you sure it is not true of all base level LCD screens? Pretty sure my samsung and TCL also do the same. Also something to do with the actual encoding perhaps? Don't have OLED to compare the scenes with.

On higher end TV's and monitors, they select LED's which are much closer to the standard white point of 6500K (think of it like the middle light in this picture).  It means that although the LCD layer may need to do some compensation to produce a "true white" it does not need to do much.  In addition these higher quality LEDs are able to produce far more of the visible colour spectrum, which helps with colour accuracy.

On low quality LED-LCD panels, they will use cheaper and inaccurate "blue" LEDS - this means by default the display has a blue tinge, you can try calibrate it but it will never quite look right

And then then for an example of warm backlight, you can think to the old CCFL backlights in older LCD monitors, they slowly get warmer over time as they deteriorate.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the 2 49" 4k displays is? SRO434K2016 is the $499 one and SRO434K2018-G6 for $399, the 2018 meaning I would have thought the cheap one was newer therefore should be more expensive? The 499 one lists a 4000:1 contrast and the $399 one 1200:1 which is more believable. Weirdly the specs on the $399 one list a VGA input which is..... interesting to include these days.

There is only a pdf manual for the $499 one, and no mention of HDMI versions in it.

Hi - I've just discovered this thread and I don't have the time or patience to read all 17 pages unfortunately

I saw the warehouse had the 32" Veon TV for $199 and Noel Leeming had it for $298.

We're looking for a TV to replace our one in the bedroom - I think it's a 24" Samsung - over 10 years old and we have a freeview box with it - picture is ok, but the freview box plays up now and again and sometimes all the media works channels TV3, Three life, bravo, HGTV, Choice, Shopping channel disappear or have no signal, then sometimes they work - so we're looking for a TV with built in Freeview.... wife wants a smart TV, but I'm not fussed

The Veon looks pretty good, has USB / HDMI and the picture quality looked good too

I have been pretty skeptical about buying cheap electrical stuff from the warehouse, but I'm seriously considering the Veon......

Next cheapest 32" I've found was a TCL from JB Hi-fi (a brand I've not heard of) at over $300, or a Panasonic for $486 at Noel Leeming.

if anyone has a good reason why I shouldn't buy the veon, please let me know

I have a Veon 50" with a Freeview A2, Amazon Fire TV and Vodafone TV connected to it. Sound is not great but it works. My problem is dialogs. I actually use it connected to an Amazon Echo Studio now. I am currently testing a JBL soundbar and the sound really improves with it.

Buy it if it's cheap. Don't buy it if it's not cheap. Keep the receipt. If you want sound that's better than your mobile phone look for a second hand sound bar.

Yep. Agreed. VEON are ok panels but rubbish sound. Budget something for external sound.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

I have a bottom of the range Samsung and everything about it is good apart from poor apps support. Apparently it's because rock bottom samsung are VA panels and despite it being Edge lit I cannot even tell. Don't quote me though. I think I have high AV standards eg i want an Oled monitor. Yes I also have an oled TV.

After reading this thread I proceeded to purchase the 58” Veon that was on sale for Black Friday hoping for a good result.

After using it for a couple weeks I can say I’m impressed with the TV, but I have worked around the main weak points mentioned in this thread. I have a Samsung sound bar attached and do not use the UHF connection at all but stream everything via AppleTV. From my understanding it’s the 4K AppleTV that does the upscaling in this configuration and not the TV and it works well. The CEC features works well and I can control everything from the AppleTV remote.

I do also play a few PlayStation3 games at 1080p and they look great too, so no complaints there.

I’m in no way an AV geek so my standards aren’t extremely high, but hopefully this info helps somebody.

That's the right way to do it with a budget TV.  Use it as a display panel only and let other components handle the audio and streaming etc.

The Warehouse group have a TV sale including Veons.

50" 4K Veon is $349 but note that it doesn't have HDR which is used for some 4K video streams - from memory, Apple TV? It probably also has poor sound quality and somewhat worse display quality than more expensive brands like the equivalent Toshiba at $589 which now beats earlier specials by at least $10 and I thought has HDR on the label in-store.

I was looking at The Warehouse website today,

I was looking at this 65 inch JVC TV

and this 65 inch VEON TV and noticed how similar they look, the pictures / body design are almost identical. The description on the website is almost the same too.

Got me wondering if JVC is actually the manufacturer of VEON TV's unless they've somehow mixed up the pictures

VEON doesn't appear to be QLED.

Anyone here got the JVC and can comment on if it is any good?

Bought a 58" Veon a week or so ago for $499. Sound is crap. Picture is reasonable but very bright at the edges - but Im mainly using it for gaming so dont notice it.  For the price, I cant complain.

The JVC 65" 4K QLED Android TV looks almost too good to be true for $999. I cannot see whether it supports Dolby Vision or HDR10.
