Is it just me or everything on TV overload the blue? When something is nice and colourful the Veon 49" is pretty good but if there's some blue overload... For example Dance with the Stars - their set is atrocious ugly and blue all the way.

 

Anyone got some "recipes" for good movie settings we can use?

 

 

 

 

That's likely down to them just using cheap LED backlights, just like you get on low price LED monitors.

 

 

 

You will never really be able to calibrate out the blue because they do not give you complex white balance controls, and if they did, it would probably mean the LCD panel itself just needs to shift the image suuuuper warm to compensate.  

 

 

Are you sure it is not true of all base level LCD screens? Pretty sure my samsung and TCL also do the same. Also something to do with the actual encoding perhaps? Don't have OLED to compare the scenes with.

 

On higher end TV's and monitors, they select LED's which are much closer to the standard white point of 6500K (think of it like the middle light in this picture).  It means that although the LCD layer may need to do some compensation to produce a "true white" it does not need to do much.  In addition these higher quality LEDs are able to produce far more of the visible colour spectrum, which helps with colour accuracy.

On low quality LED-LCD panels, they will use cheaper and inaccurate "blue" LEDS - this means by default the display has a blue tinge, you can try calibrate it but it will never quite look right

And then then for an example of warm backlight, you can think to the old CCFL backlights in older LCD monitors, they slowly get warmer over time as they deteriorate.
