I just ran the collector and the data seems quite sporadic.
Right now (11:30am Thurs), I have data for channels 3 and 4 from 12am Friday through to next week. Channels 1 and 2 are never a problem. Most of the other channels are sporadic in whether there is data or not.
The guide in my freeview TV functions perfectly as well.
I just noticed while clicking through some of the "." that they return various pieces of information like maybe PG ratings or episode titles or HD, Dolby etc. But only showing "." for the title or series title.
Example:
For Thursday 17th May, Channel Four has South Park.
Media Center shows this when that time slot is clicked on in the WMC guide.
. "Coon vs Coon & Friends" Thu, 17/05, 9:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. CH4 Four
AO 30 minutes
So some data is there (episode title, time, channel, age ratings) but for some reason is returning "." for the title or series title.
Do we need to slow the collector down or something to give time to gather all the info?
I've just done a collection and direct import to WMC and every channel is fine. This is using v3.2.
Check what the data looks like in the mxf file as that's what's loaded by WMC. It's just a text file (xml layout) and the Program lines are the ones that contain the title, description, hd flags etc.
Thanks SJB, I've gone through the MXF file and the data looks laright to me too althought I saw the odd unknown "rectangle" character in there but I dont know if that would throw out the import process. Is there another app that I can use to try and import the MXF file again to check for errors?
I've just been to have a look at TVGuide.mxf. For some reason mine seems to be associated with VLC - is that a problem? What should be the default program for it?
I did a system restore to before it was working, set up the tuner and ran EPG collecter and the issue is still there. The only difference wsa the time the epg worked the "play ready PC" WMC app failed to install, will check to see if that is the issue tomorrow.
Hauppauge HVR2210 and driver Wireless card and driver Adobe Flash VLC media player
and some overclock monitoring stuff
Asus Probe II Realtemp CPU-Z GPU-Z Intelburntest Prime 95
I have some windows updates that still fail to install to do with .Net.3.5.whatever
I occassionally get program stopped working messages for WMC utility and Loadmfx while running a collection - but they're not consistent - seem to be more of a timeout thing. This leads me to think maybe something got broken in WMC during windows updates or VLC installation.
Noticed last night that VLC had associated itself with a vast array of file types and WMC only had a couple on the list. Changing the TVGuide.mxf file between VLC and WMC as default program seemed to make no difference so maybe a red herring.
Things that changed around the time the problem occurred;
1. Frequency changes 2. Installed VLC 3. Possible Windows updates
I'll break out the Windows disk today hopefully and let you know if I fluke something.
I should add that although my TV tuner works as good as ever, My Hauppauge TV card is not performing as strongly as it was with reception. Initially I thought that was because I installed the wireless card next to it and maybe it was interfering, since my wireless keyboard and mouse also began to suffer at the same time if there is wireless traffic on the PC. Having to run wireless atm because my router has stopped working on LAN but works fine on wireless. Will be interesting to see if those two issues clear up when I replace the router. THis happened weeks before the frequency changes.
In all, its starting to look like a system problem rather than an EPG problem, you think? If you don't have anything common to my list above, I guess that would leave us with Windows updates being the culprit.
Things in common with my build is Win 7 x64, happauge HVR-2210 and the asus monitoring stuff. Last time it worked I hadn't installed the HVR-2210 drivers yet and I connected using a 3rd USB tuner. Ill reinstall windows again tonight and see if i can narrow it down.
I'm not sure what it is but it seems too much of a coincidence that we are connected to the same tower... possibly its a combination of things causing the issue
I've narrowed it down to 2 things either the "Play Ready" update or My movies (c++ redistributable 2005 and SQL). This time it was it that obvious as it only effect C4 and not until 10 or so hours into the guide.
Its definetly not windows update as I have disabled those. Ill do one more reinstall and see if i can confirm it for sure.
Edit: Im looking at the EPG entries that do have the "." for a title and its only on Four and C4 for the late night infomercials (11pm to 6am).
Once I get to the 24/5 3pm(day 6) the "." appear a lot for TV3, four, C4 and TV3+1 but 1, 2 and 7 are fine and the data for all channels finishes on the 25/5 @ 12AM.
There is the chance that I didnt check enough of the guide for the start so ill make double sure this time. :)
