If you can't get reception, then you won't get Freeview then... surely you can just watch movies on a computer / tablet instead. I'd invest in a VPN and get your Netflix on, personally.

I'm sure I can get reception, it's just crappy 'readjust for each channel' standard reception, no reason to want an HD TV.

sure, but I don't have enough bandwidth in this flat to download the nightly news every day for a month, never mind if there was anything else worth watching.

if I could afford a tablet I'd just pay someone to wire up a roof antenna instead. hell, I can afford it, but it seems like a ridiculous idea.

Why restrict yourself to web retailers? I recommend you use the web, check out stores like Harvey Norman to see what TV's are close to what you want, then go in and screw a deal down to the price you are prepared to pay. The last TV I bought, I managed to negotiate with Noel Leemings to $400-odd less than the asking price then got them to throw in a TV cabinet and HDMi cable free to sweeten the deal.

If you are not used to negotiating just ask, "what's the best price you can do?" followed by, "that's a bit more than I can afford, can you come down any lower?" or something like that. There is always wriggle room with those larger chains. I've never paid the ticket price for any appliance. On the web, you pay what they ask. In person you can hit that sweet spot where both seller and buyer are happy.

yea, I've done that all my life, actually, before I started getting my computer gear online. never buy anything on credit, always get the best cash discount, but usually it's only around 15%.

You could get UHF aerial in to the lounge then use setup a htpc there to stream out ethernet/wireless/homeplug powerline network to wherever in the house.

Actually doesn't the HDHomeRun output DLNA (might be HDHomeRun Prime only) now? If so any TV that supports DLNA could work off that.

I understood none of that, but we have SKY in the lounge, does that help me somehow?

I've never, ever paid a delivery fee with them. Did you ask if they would waive it?

If you can't get in to talk to them face-to-face then try ringing them. I've beaten down prices over the phone (only with Noel Leeming and Harvey Norman though - others wouldn't do deals over the phone). Nothing to lose by trying. If you are happy enough with the online price and they won't go down when you ask if that price is the best they can do, then ask for delivery to be included.

Keep in mind that including delivery free-of-charge is the same as getting that cost off the price. Most of those stores pay other companies to do their deliveries.

oh, I don't even want delivery, I just at the time interpreted their 'online only' deal scenario as being delivery-only. I dunno if they'd hold it in store or anything.
probably worth finding out.
