Looked at 50" FHD Panasonic plasmas after reading this thread...
JBHifi have TH-P50S60Z at $996 whereas HarveyNorman have TH-P50S60 at $1288 ?
Does the Z have significance here? The specs on HN are sparse and don't mention built-in wifi and internet features that are listed on JBHF.
Thinking about one of these for the lounge and the aforementioned Bluesen for the kids' room cheapie. Maybe buy an OpenBox satellite decoder for the kids' room so they can grab the smart card and watch SkyTV in there.
Same TV, one is on sale right now, the other isn't. The reality is, both companies can probably sell the TV for the same price... buy based on service / convenience. The 'smart TV' functionality isn't smart really. The web browser is painful to use, won't support Flash etc and isn't capable of anything else 'smart'... so I'm picking wifi would only be used for firmware updates?
Agree on web browser... but supposedly this tv's "smart" ability is in knowing about Netflix etc out of the box. Well, at least that's what a non-NZ review says...
Dunnersfella: Right now, the entry level Panasonic 50" LED's are being slaughtered in price at most of the stores... Fill ya boots!
After seeing those cheap panny plasmas I would take a budget 50hz lcd over them any day. Flicker to hell and look like a snowey old analog signal with all the dither on them.
Not familiar with this brand, but have seen a couple of the bigger veons in use at friends places and there is nothing _wrong_ with the picture, other than being 50Hz so looking horrid in every panning or similar scene.
Since you have to disable all the nice features to get the latency down for gaming, there is no point getting a tv with them on it for gaming, so the budget veons etc have a place for that.
I am waiting for OLEDs to become more affordable, as they will solve a lot of the problems that LEDs have, including the motion blur problems.
The LG has an HD Freeview tuner (UHF), the issue is that JB's have a bit of a habit of printing incorrect / Australian specs on their products. The main issue with the LG though, is the sound... it's like listening to a mobile phone, and there's no optical port / RCA out / Coax output / HDMI ARC to plug into a sound system. Meaning, you're stuck with what you have. The Panasonic S60 should come up on special around the place some time soon, it's not bad for the money IMHO.

Wow, that takes cutting corners to a whole new level. I would never ever buy or recommend a TV without an optical or coax audio output.
