Following my enquiry on Geekzone on how to connect a particular SAMSUNG  soundbar to a particular VEON television set :   VN50D3LED VEON TV TO HW-F450 SAMSUNG SOUND BAR   I was given well-meaning advice from various GEEKS . Their replies were naturally based on the assumption that my VEON TV had one or some of the usual audio outlets. The GEEKS were amazed to learn that my VEON is sadly lacking in the  audio out department. Following that revelation the GEEK advice from one or two was to take the VEON back to 'where everyone gets a bargain' ie to where I purchased it . However I did not relish the thought of taking the 50" beast off the wall from where it was mounted .   So , instead I looked at other GEEK advice , most of which was too technical for me to understand :   eg Toslink - what an earth is that , I wondered .     In the end following advice from GEEK FORUM members Isw20 and kiwitrc , I proceeded as follows -

I  purchased from JAYCAR :

1x WQ-7293  Fibre Optic Toslink Plug Lead  0.5m  ( $9.90)

1x AC-1599 Coaxial to Audio Converter , includes 1x Power Adaptor in same box ( $39.90 ) Instruction sheet with diagram is included.  
                                                                                                                                                                       After a few anxious minutes  ( the Tosling ends would not fit in the holes - why didn't I know that you must   remove the clear plastic end pieces first !? ) -the connections were made .   Then nothing worked but only     because   I had failed to turn the wall plugs back on  (Groan )   All is now working - it just remains for me to       wall-mount the soundbar
