A bit of an update. I got it working with GBPVR finally.

All of the settings work. Avi files that didn't play in mediaportal are now working, tv channel changes are much faster, quality is better.

I didn't have to muck around with any settings. Just got me tv card recognised finally and channels tuned and it did the rest. So for me it is so long to Mediaportal and hello to GBPVR.

I highly recommend anyone else with this card and motherboard do the same.

I have gone the same route.  I wanted to use MP, I liked the whole concept and the architecture (TV Server + Client).

But it is just not stable with the hybrid cards (HVR-4000).  In my case after endless reinstalls and rollbacks I finally got the DVB-S side of the card working, but the analog side (for SKY composite capture) would just not play ball.  So I threw a PVR-150 to handle that function and the cards just do not want to coexist.  I even went the clean install route to get rid of any buggy codecs and drivers that might have been lingering.

GB PVR just works.  Configuration is easy, and although I’m still testing/tweaking it seems readily usuable with a minimum of hassle.

So a plug for the homegrown PVR!

Was thinking of getting a Gigabyte GA-8I865GME-775 to replace the crappy one I have at the moment.

My criteria was as follows:
Has to have AGP, i don't want to buy a PCI-E video card.
It to be in the $100-$150 range
Must be socket 775 for my CPU to work in it

Any thoughts or better recommendations?

That was my thinking exactly when I set out. I intended to use the tv server with a leadtek tv2000 xp for sky capture and the hvr3000 for the fta. Mediaportal looked more polished and seemed to offer more ease as far as plugins etc.

However it just didnt work most of the time. and as you say the GBPVR just works.

Although I am still tweaking it also but it is closer to my original plans that mediaportal ever got.
So I agree, well done Sub!
