I have gone the same route. I wanted to use MP, I liked the whole concept and the architecture (TV Server + Client).
But it is just not stable with the hybrid cards (HVR-4000). In my case after endless reinstalls and rollbacks I finally got the DVB-S side of the card working, but the analog side (for SKY composite capture) would just not play ball. So I threw a PVR-150 to handle that function and the cards just do not want to coexist. I even went the clean install route to get rid of any buggy codecs and drivers that might have been lingering.
GB PVR just works. Configuration is easy, and although I’m still testing/tweaking it seems readily usuable with a minimum of hassle.
So a plug for the homegrown PVR!
