Hi,

What they can do is what happens in Canada, most/all cable + Sat. companies broadcast the major US networks but say fox is showing Prison Break and a Canadian channel own the Canada rights then they bring in Sim subbing. Where the canadian channel gets it's broadcast put in place of Fox's. This way they show Canadian adverts instead of the US feed. I think this would work here. The only thing to screw this up is that Aus + NZ will need to broadcast the shows at the same time and due to the time difference I am sure they can do a -2 for NZ (like History channel). If the FTA own the right's then it is no problem.

I remember that you could either watch it on CTV with Canadian Ads or you could watch it on whichever ABC/Fox/NBC feed you received with the American ads?

A similar situation probably wouldn't happen here, unlike the USA and Canada, our time zones don't match - The 'merged' Foxtel/Sky could simply keep the feeds of 7/9/Ten/*others and One/Two/3/C4 on different transponders as to not interfere with the programming rights if the individual channels.

It certainly would be interesting to see what would happen with the additional channels (I'm another person who wants Boomerang!) and to TCLs cable network. IMHO I think that the InHome TV label is uh...bland.

Hi,

I was more talking about live rights where if NZ has rights then a NZ feed would be sent, remember broadcasters buy the rights for groups of years so even if they merge all remaining contracts would either need to be cancelled and renewed of amended, which could cost them dearly. Since D1,2 and 3 have NZ spot beams they could use them to create -2 channels for NZ. So they could create a seperate Fox Sports NZ untill all contracts are up. I like that History channel is time neutral and I would prefer that on most channels.

I aim to misbehave.

Oh, I see what you mean now. Really, it would just be a rebranding operation on the existing Sky Sports channels then, wouldn't it?

Hi,

Yes, that is the point, it is like the cricket, channel 9 has alot of Int. Here skysport does so we would always need a dedicated NZ channel. Still I would like a show advertised at 8 to be on at 8 not 8Aest/10NZt. I am led to believe Aus cannot use the NZ beams so they could work to our advantage.

yes, had mentioned that on the previous page.  There are events that Sky currently hold which by law can't be on pay TV in Australia (eg cricket from Australia).  If this ever came to fruititon, this would have to be sorted by individual country channels, or black out (how it's done in North America)
