Not unless you either
a) Have a very large dish, or
b) Happen to be in OZ

Their signals are on AU only beams.

correct. My point was whether someone could test if Sky NZ are similarly running any HD tests yet. I don't have a DVB-S2 card to check.

I have a DVB-S2 capable card and have scanned in sky channels, Nothing obvious sticks out to me, There is a Auxiliary Channel, a Res25 channel, a couple of preview channels and an Unknown 448 channel. All encrypted of course so cant check any out.

Personally I prefer Foxtel's offer of BBC HD, Discovery HD / National Geographic Channel HD, FOX SPORTS HD and ESPN HD, than two movie channels and SS1 and SS2. Why not just have movies on Demand instead of wasting bandwidth for two movie channels? (/me doesn't subscribe to Sky Movies and considers them a total waste of money)

We don't subscribe to Sky Movies either because they are mostly outdated rubbish that is of minimal appeal. Lately have been watching a few movies on demand @ $6.99 per shot. It is exactly the same cost as going to the local video rental store except much more convenient for us as the nearest store is a ferry ride away.

Sky's HD offering leaves me distinctly underwhelmed. I see no reason at all to upgrade from MySky to the new HDi model as neither of us are sports fans and the normal Sky Movies channels are of no value to us either.

However, I am really enjoying watching the Component Video output from MySky on my new 24" LCD monitor which doubles as my computer monitor via an HDMI port. It even has PIP so I can keep an eye on the TV in one corner of my screen

I'm not a sports fan. If there's a major cost for HD I'll stick with mysky, until a free view PVR comes out that can be programed from guide. Preferably that can record HD as well.

I don't mind sky movies, usually 3 months on, 3 months off. I just don't watch movies as they come out, so just under $20 for 8 new movies a month - plus ones haven't seen is value for money to me.

My local video store, 5 minutes down road has half price Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The movies on pay per view are usually 4 day hires so works out $3 a movie, to me that makes pay per view suck. If sky goes that'll be where I get my HD movies from - just hope they're 16:9, as most movie hires at present are wider then that and leave nasty bars top and bottom of my wide screen TV, where as sky movies 99% of the time is exactly 16:9

I see sky start up is going to just under $50 in June, which I think includes sky watch.

It would make more sense to me if you could subscribe to the on demand stuff, and save their bandwith that way, but I'm not prepared to pay the single pay per view prices.

The pricing on the receiver can't be too far away. You can't have HD channels without the new hardware so they will have to roll out that first. I wonder if they will let people pre-order it like with MySky?

I remember signing up for MySky on the Sky TV website and then Sky Customer Service contacing me to confirm installation date.

I bet that they will have something like "If you subscribe to the HD channels, we'll upgrade you free of charge."

Can I just express my disappointment at Sky omitting the apostrophe from "won't" in their HD blurb? Come on, that's elementary stuff... Not a good look!

Try a Topfield 6000PVR ES. Only the satelite reciever on the market at the moment but itdefinately looks the goods.
I'm waiting for the terrestial version.

The Sky HD box is quite a slick little black number - it uses the same (or similar) remote as the current MySky and the brief glimpse I got of its user interface looked pretty impressive... My understanding is that it has 4 tuners and a huge hard drive and is also IPTV compatible in some way shape or form.. Judging from the video quality I saw (via an infocus 1080p projector) which was admittedly only with SD broadcast, I'm guessing that footage is up-scaled as it looked a lot cleaner than standard sky digital video .. All in all I'm impressed ....

I'd assume that it would have a 320gb hdd like the foxtel version. Any idea on the one off cost for this?
