Box states that its only 2.4ghz and it only appeared to find 2.4 networks

I tested it with airplay and that worked without issue, they are just not very user friendly compared to a chromecast.

Ah well. The one I bought hasnt even being paid for yet because of the ebay stupidity of letting sellers exclude PO Boxes and not putting that on the listing. Will probably just email ebay to cancel the sale now that others have arrived and found they are fakes.

The genuine article is dirt cheap already ... seriously, the genuine article, complete with CGA protection, is DIRT CHEAP out of the starting blocks

So, why would you bother with, what is almost a certainly from the outset, a hassle-filled ebay runaround just to save $20?

(I don't get)

Because eBay and its money back guarantee protects against this anyway, so we all get our money back

Fair enough, but how much of your personal time do you want to invest in chasing up dodgy deals for perceived savings of around $20 or $30 give or take?

An iPhone at $1,200, maybe. A Chromecast at $60?

YMMV.

I'm the OP, yesterday I went down to PBTech and bought real the McCoy.

Sorry to hear those that bought the ebay ones got scammed.

Here's hoping those in the future that want to buy a cheap Chromecast from eBay check this thread first.

Yep have started the process

I can send them back if they want, but since they don't match the description they have to pay.

eBay policy is "The cost of return shipping is the seller's responsibility. For return of items with a total cost of $750 or more, we require signature confirmation."

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/money-back-guarantee.html#description

How are you getting on with the refund process?

I've had a reply from the supplier saying they can send another one, I've asked them to confirm it is the one as advertised not the one I sent or as advertised now. They have until tomorrow to reply and for me to accept.

Delaying tactics - wanting you to have the dispute time out because "replacement must still be on the way" and crap. Been a while since I used ebay and disputed but from memory if you accept that solution, then its all sorted as far as they are concerned. They can ship nothing, another fake, or a rock and you will probably be way outside the timeframe to do anything by the time you know what is going on.

They have screwed you around once, dont fall for their tricks to avoid getting a dispute strike or a negative feedback.

I have to  wait till tomorrow to go back to Ebay ( they give you time to sort it out with supplier) if I can't resolve my issue, which I haven't. I'm following their rules so lets see how it goes before lambasting them.

Have to say its interesting so if nothing else I understand Ebay a bit better but in this case the supplier hasn't a leg to stand on as he can't supply what was advertised and it is on my Ebay invoice what it was meant to be.

I also had the offer of another one sent to me which I refused and I said that I still wanted to return the item. I've just received a full refund of the price I paid and the seller said I can keep the item.

Buyer protection on eBay with PayPal really works.

Received my full refund today, also still apparently have another one on the way too.

I had filed a request with eBay and was ready to do the statutory declaration but the seller refunded straight away once contacted by eBay.
