As far as i'm aware the 2016 models are designated by the 6. So you have the B6/C6 from last year and now the B7/C7

Ahh I just read up on this. The B7 is an alternate model for lower cost stores such as Sam's Club and Costco primarily in the US. It's the same TV as the C7 but with a different stand. It means there is no price pressures on the C7 model.

Anybody got any price info for a LG C7 OLED? Went Harvey Norman Mt Wellington and it is on special for approx $8300, but the sales rep said he could do it for just under $8000. Anyone else had a better price? Anyone else purchased a C7, and what do you think?

My old Panasonic plasma is now dying, so I need a new TV in the next month or so - waiting to compare the LG with the Panasonic OLED, before I make a decision.

Any opinions would be great.

Thinking about the Sky TV demo that I talked about above, in retrospect is was probably SD Sky TV that was upscaled, and not HD. So the old rule of crap in = crap out applies I guess.

I am continuing my search for a new TV to replace my plasma. JB Hifi still have the 2016 LG OLED 55” B6 for $3999 (online), but I cannot commit to buying one, as I can’t get to see this TV connected to MySky HDI (my primary use). The 2017 LG OLED’s have been reported as having motion trail on some 1080i (SKY TV) broadcasts, so they are not for me.

I saw the 2017 Sony X9000E LED/LCD in Harvey Norman this week connected to Sky Sport. This was a 49” and I am after a 55” ($4,000). I also watched a little Jones channel (crappy old content). I was impressed with this TV, which has had great reviews from owners in the USA. It is full array with local dimming and has a VA panel so has great contrast. A potential downside is its viewing angle from more than 30% or so, which gives washed out colours.

I am waiting on release of the Panasonic OLED EZ950 due this month ($7,000). It would however need to be of significantly better picture quality than the Sony, to justify the price difference. These prices will no doubt reduce over time, for those not in a hurry to buy.

I pulled the trigger on a 55 inch B6 back in october 2016. One of the best ownership experiences to date 😁. I paid $4800 on sale at JB, which wasnt a bad price at the time.

We run a wide range of content on it, and good HD content comes out extremely well. BluRay is awesome when upscaled to 4K. Vodafone TV (rebadged Sky) is fine when on HD channels. The kids like Nick and Disney Jnr, which is only (heavily compressed) SD. The screen does OK with this, and tuning the picture settings can help alot.

However the main issue is when viewing Native 4K content in HDR (via built in Netflix and Amazon video clients), it does rather spoil you, and it can be dissapointing to go back to "just" HD in SDR 😐

As a user of a HTPC, I wasnt expecting the smart TV features to be much of a draw. However the WebOs interface is really intuitive to use. I have now migrated from MediaPortal (on the HTPC) to Plex (via WebOs native client). Casting YouTube videos to the set is also quite cool.

Fortunately my old (commercial) Panasonic 42inch plasma is still going strong in our bedroom, although it doesn't get much use these days.

If you can find a 2016+ LG OLED at a decent price, then I highly recommend them.

We have the LG OLED 55EG91 (no idea what number probably 5 or 1 ??, Its hooked up to terrestrial Freeview and I have never noticed any blurring at any stage (that I can see).

I friken love the picture its always so clear and crisp. We watch a lot of movies via either our home theater setup or Netflix. I know ours is only 1080p but for us I am not to worried about 4k at this stage.

Paired it with an Lg sound bar so everything is controlled with the one remote, movies are streamed off the nas with wired connection straight to TV so never any lag.

The unfortunate thing about the LG pricing in NZ is that it's a ripoff compared to Aussie.

They're the identical TV but thousands cheaper over there - you could book flights to Aussie, buy a C7 55", spend the night in flash hotel, eat & drink, fly back, pay extra for luggage, pay GST and still save yourself around $1500 vs buying one here.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my post. The suggestion of recording a TV broadcast on my MySky HDI set-top box then taking it into the retailer to play on a TV, is one I hadn’t thought of.

I can conclude from the replies, that fast motion on both OLED and LED/LCD, is not as well controlled as that of my beloved and soon to be deceased, plasma.

At this stage, I am hoping to hold off purchase until the release of the 2017 Sony LED/LCD X900E or X930E, so I can consider these TV's also. Apparently their motion handling capability is great. Only problem is that Sony can’t tell me when, or even if, they will be released in NZ. The 55” models currently sell in the USA for around $1,500 and $2,000 respectively, meaning the NZ price will likely be two to three times that amount.

Of course, motion handling is only one aspect of a good TV. Thanks again.

i don't know if you can do that. if there is no satellite signal you can't watch squat from the recorder IIRC.

Bit like the old days, then, when kiwis went to Australia and brought back electronic gear! Thought those days were long over. Shame they're not.

Pricing is messed up that's for sure which is why I bought in Australia before moving. A C7 can be had for $3700AU at the AU JB Hi-Fi where as I think I saw it at $8000 in a catalog here.

Speaking of which my LG B6 turns up tomorrow with the rest of my stuff (over 2 months later). I get to see if I cry and look for a new TV or have saved myself a load of money depending on it's condition.

Well that didn't take long for LG to drop prices.

65" has dropped 2k down to $6299 and the 55" is now down to $4999 which is $1k off.

Couple weeks ago bought the 55inch LG OLED

Oh my lord image is truly stunning

Only thing I watch on sky is sport

I truly truly believe I cannot see any of the issues mentioned

Must admit Im reading stuff all the time (AVS forum) and constantly fiddling

ESPN isn't best image but basketball baseball no issues Rugby no issues at all

I was in Harvey Norman yesterday looking at the Panasonic and Sony OLEDs. I saw the Sony in the UK a few weeks ago so was keen to see these side by side.

People are obviously going to be able to argue about Sony vs LG vs Panasonic but the one thing that's not in dispute here is how simply amazing these TV's are compared to everything else in store. You could know nothing at all about TV's and definately pick them out of a lineup compared to the LED's.

Hi all

I just purchased a LG 65 inch C7 from Harvey Norman the other day for $6250 (or thereabouts). The price there jumps around from day to day, and they seem to move the price up and down to price match whatever the lowest price in the market is. I'm pretty happy with the price, as a fortnight before they wanted to sell it to me for $8000 there. My advice is to keep a daily eye on Pricespy etc.

Couldn't really see much difference in LG vs Panasonic vs SOny OLED. There was some debate about if Panasonic and Sony are being supplied last years or this years LG panels. The LG obviously is using the latest generation panel.

Just waiting to get my TV wall mounted, then I will report back on the picture.

Out of interest, does anyone calibrate their new TVs, and if so how, and did it make a big difference?
