loryda: Hi sorry to bring this topic up again
Was just browsing google and stumbled upon..
My question (which kinda delves into this topic) is will you be able to watch sky's HD broadcasts without getting MySkyHD?
I run Vista Media center and am thinking of upgrading the hardware to take advantage of my HDMI TV but dont want to get MySky as its basically a B.S MediaCenter with an EPG (which sky wont release and slants my opinion of them anyway).
Currently run Digital Sky through my motorola decoder which has Scart or AV only. Connected via AV to Haupaugge 150MCE through a crap video card and finally out through VGA to the TV. Picture is kinda average which is probably a combination of all factors (all of which will be upgraded if i can get Skys HD broadcasts)
Thing is though.. are there any plans to make decoders available to regular Sky subscribers that can provide a TV tuner with HD signal to throw through an HDCP card to the TV for picture perfect veiwing?
Thinking through this I'm getting a little confused though now as the signal will be digital, it will require a digital card, or its always going to be weakest link... hrrmmm..... Any help!??! Pleeeaaase
Many thanks!
Short term the answer is no. HD available only through My Sky HDi. I believe most pay tv operators are using the PVR model now.
Recently Sony announced a consortium of CE manufacturers and TV industry companies that were looking at setting up standard protocols for getting digital content directly into TVs ie without the need for a set top box. Whether that will get off the ground remains to be seen.
