As for the ATV platform on the shield does anyone know if it supports nz based apps ie lightbox or fta apps?

The one drawback of the Shield is that the local providers don't provide Android TV apps. Some can be side loaded with varying degrees of success and FTA can be accessed through Kodi IPTV but the whole experience for local streaming is not as slick as the ATV.

Perhaps with it being sold here they will get off their butts and get the apps into the stores... Nahh, they will just stick with their smart tv exclusivity and wonder why people go elsewhere for entertainment.

Why not cast from your phone if you really want? Prime and tvnz on demand work well

Because casting is a real PITA to do compared with turn on tune in cop out that an app on a box lets you do.

Yep love my Shield - but if you want local apps there are probably better streaming device options.

But for me....FTA / Ondemand TV?

Yeah nah - esp when I have Netflix, Lightbox and ...ahem.... Terrarium TV, Kodi (+addons) and an uploaded account.

PLUS all the other great stuff my Shield does for me in my HT set-up (refer previous threads).

Edit: At any rate - we have Freeview Ondemand available in both the HT and Family Room set-ups and they NEVER get a look in anyway - but to each their own.

Right, with no GST paid, and no local warranty. Pay attention, we covered this already!

Without any form of consumer protection or local taxes being applied... Of course its cheaper overseas but you take the risk of not being able to return it should it break.

This is not entirely correct. My first shield stopped working - brought it up with Amazon and they paid for shipping to them. before I could post it back got a new Shield delivered with express shipping at no cost to me.

You just cannot beat that service!

I was so impressed I picked up another shield during the prime day.

Actually it's still on.

The prime day offer was for the remote only not including the controller. The controller option is still on sale.

Was it still in warranty?  1 year warranties are always honoured, but normally the purchaser has to pay the return so that is good of Amazon... However the NZ CGA provisions would go well beyond the warranty period, especially for a fixed non-upgradable unit.

Amazon do vary a little product to product as to whether they will pay return shipping. I've had extremely good treatment from them, but as a prime member and high volume customer, they are very accomodating. I am not sure I would say I would factor in paid return shipping in every purchase.
