Bought one via amazon, on sale , delivered in 7 days . under $220NZ at the time.

Best thing I ever bought-- replaced a NUC that was on the way out.

Only thing I hate is the Bluetooth remote, my universal controller doesn't work with it.

Still, the app selection is great-I use Kodi, plex, netflix, youtube, TVNZ, Twitch and haystack TV,

Might have to keep an eye out for Prime day deals....

Any 'gotchas' with using a US Shield here?

No Gothcas as far as my experience so far. Works perfectly, I'll  buy more to replace the Raspberry Pi's on each TV eventually.

Biggest setup issue was it took me a while to work out what 4k settings work best on my TV to get best picture (combination of HDR settings being right in TV , matching shield's settings) but that may be more a 4k challenge.

I'm confident Amazon would support if any issues too, have had them send replacements without argument for faulty gear Ive bought there before.

only PITA is that they come with a US plug so you'll have to use an adapter

Looks like it is back in stock in a few places: Computer Lounge, PlayTech, PBAndJamTech

Is it worth getting the controller included version if I have no real intention of playing games through it?

All I really want it for is as a 4K streaming box feeding into my receiver, so I can quit TV apps and ARC. If not, I might think about saving $70 and getting the remote only version.

Nah not worth it. I bought the non controller version and use it with the remote and you don’t loose anything as a streaming box. Which it is a very good one for sub $300

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Sweet, thanks for the heads-up. Not a bad price compared to when they first appeared here.

Amazon & B&H have had them "on sale" for a few weeks now. There's rumours of a new model, so I guess nVidia is selling off current stock.

Where did you see this rumor ? there was no mention of a new shield at CES 2019.

I've been waiting for these to restock in NZ so I could buy another one for upstairs but would be p*ssed if a new model came out without any sorta warning.

They didn't run a special over amazon prime day either which kinda made me think there was no urgency for them to sell out to make way for a new model

It was all over the place last month - AndroidPolice, GeForce forums.Whether its true or not is a different story.

The ShieldTV is still king of the hill when it comes to streaming boxes in terms of performance.

Amazon have had a special on the gaming one and it was almost as cheap as the non-gaming one. B&H have the same deal. Buying it local though is a much nicer option if things go wrong.

Looks like the usual round the rumor mill stuff: TechRadar, 9To5Google, Android Authority, Android Police

Most importantly, they all seem to suggest a minor revision rather than a complete new generation.

Also looks like the current Shield will get Pie at least

No point waiting for new one. With electronics there's always a new one coming.   FCC have received notification or request about new Nvidia Shield with an updated Tegra  chip and native android pie and updated Android TV.   This presumably means a new shield is in the works but more than likely wont be announced until CES 2020 and available later.

Yep, was looking to be a minor update, so I pulled the trigger and mine should arrive today. I can finally ditch my old WD TV :)

its a good idea after you get it - to do the 7.2.3+ test image upgrade on it because the latest image available is pretty poor form really
