openmedia: Is it possible to run the same output to HDMI and DVI at the same time with this board?

Also does it support any analogue output over DVI. Ideally I want SVideo and Composite as well as component, but just component would be nice.

If you are looking for HD output via the HDMI and DVI ports at the same time then I don't think you will get it. Intel are known for their strict policy to stay within the 'standards' (which is why I went with this board). HDCP will prevent dual output but may work if you are going via component. I'll try and do some testing to get some more info.

JaBZ: Cool thanks, I also asume the board directs audio over HDMI as well?  Would it simultanouesly direct audio over hdmi and through the rear analog connections?

Yes, all sounds are redirected through the HDMI multi channel connection if it is the active connection. However, there is one annoying thing with the sound that appears to be caused/controlled by Vista. If you set the Control Panel -> Sound Speakers to 7.1 (or 5.1), then Vista appears to lock the output into this mode for everything.

Any other AV unit such as the PS3 will switch the channel output to match the source being played. Vista does not do this. Your AMP simply tells you Multi-Channel 7.1 all the time from your PC and to frustrate you more, if you play a 5.1 source on a 7.1 speaker set layout, Vista redirects what should be the side speaker channels to the rear channels !!

Apart from that 'unique' Windows behaviour, all other sound feeds fine down the HDMI connection.

One cool thing is that you can even switch on S/PDIF passthrough in the likes of AC3Filter or other apps and the S/PDIF is automatically fed down the HDMI connection to the AMP which (with my Denon) will correctly switch to Dolby Digital 5.1 as if it had an optical or coax connection.

I can't tell you if the analog connections are active at the same time. I'll try to test it for you.

Im looking for Freeview HD output to both HDMI and DVI to component simultanously.. and with sound on the HDMI and out of the rear analogue simulatenously.  I'm not worried about blueray as have a seperate player for that.

Ok got the Intel board and the Fusion V2, now transplanting the parts out of the shuttle.

Paul, where did you connect the Fusion case M/B PWR & GRND connector on the Intel mainboard?
Also it seems the Power supply in my Fusion is missing the 3pin power connector for the 3pin connector coming off the VFD, will have to ask Computer Lounge whats up with that.

Connect the MB PWR (to Pin 6) & GRND (to Pin 8) of the MB Front Panel connector (Step 7) of the install sheet. The other Power On/Off connector plugs into the back of the VFD (pull the optical drive carrier out to get at it). Seems complicated but the power on/off passes through the VFD which allows you to power the PC on/off via a MCE remote.

The red, black, purple 3 pin supply feed should be attached to the 24 pin MB connector. It does not come out of the power supply directly.  If not they may have changed the design ??

Edit: Oh, OK, I misread your post. The 3 wire feed is missing from the VFD. That's a problem.

Thanks.  No it's not missing from the VFD the 3 pin connector from the VFD is lying there, ready to be conencted to the 24 PIN power supply connector, but there is nowhere to plug it into from the powersupply I triple checked for a 3 pin connector from the PSU wires, to attach it to the 24pin.. nothing..

Bugger. That is odd and frustrating. I purchased my case from Computer Lounge also. They shipped it to me but it arrived with a damaged volume knob that may have happened during delivery but they exchanged it with no problems. I did initially order the wrong RAM for mine (it was 2.1v instead of 1.8v and this board is not designed for gaming ram) but they swapped that for me also.

Ok called them they will swap it when they have new stock soon.  Minor inconvenience swapping everything out again.

I puchased this DVI to component cable from Rapallo AV.  Connected it up to the DVI on the Intel board and I get a scrambled video signal to the components on my Sony SXRD.  You can make out the Intel boot logo etc and wording but there is scambling of the picture.  This is the same in Vista.  Couldnt find any BIOS settings.
Would this mean the board does not support analogue component out of the DVI connector?

Not sure about this intel one but my 780g/8200 board doesn't support analogue over DVI, looks like yours might be the same?

You will need to make sure you are sending a 50Hz or 60Hz signal over DVI, otherwise the screen can't lock.

Here is Intel's reply to my question about whether the DVI port would support component output
So it appears it is capable.  However I have asked for specifics, although I'm not sure we wil get that.

Hello Jaidev,

Thank you for contacting Intel(R) Technical Support.

The DVI port on the Intel(R) Desktop Board DG45ID is a DVI-A port, which supports Analog and Digital outputs. Be aware that we do not support the usage of interface adapters on Intel(R) Desktop Boards.

Sincerely,

Further to that i emailed again asking for specific Component support, and the reply is below.
So it appears it may be capable but no detail around what cable or adapter we use, as they dont support it.

Hello again, Jaidev,

Thank you once more for contacting Intel(R) Technical Support.

As we mentioned in the previous email, we do not support nor recommend the usage of interface adaptors with Intel(R) Desktop Boards. You can connect a DVI to VGA, or a DVI-Component adapter, but we cannot guarantee that the configuration will work.

If you wish to output the signal to a TV, we recommend using the HDMI port.

Sincerely,

Paul C.

re components:

+  Why a Q9300 if this is purely for HTPC use?  Surely an E7200 or at most E8400 at most would be adequate for HT use, at a much cheaper price?

+  Any issues encountered due to only 2GB ram (presumably with Vista) ?

Thanks
