Look for 'Detail Setting' and see if Type1, 2 or 3 works for you.
Thanks for your input but, as I said earlier, the bluetooth menu is very basic, basically on or off then choose the device to sync to. No detail menu anywhere.
I had another play today and Net Radio works through the earpods as well so I think that Dunnersfella is correct.
There are some reasonable, cheap bluetooth Sony headphones in the Boxing Day sales so I will buy some and report back. Luckily the earpods are my wifes. I was going to buy a set myself but won't bother now.
Hi, cannot comment on how to fix this directly, but I can say that I have an older Yamaha receiver and recently added a MusiCast adapter, the whole MusiCast system works brilliant, and we have easily added a Marley bluetooth speaker, plus other bluetooth speakers with no issues. As a solution the Musicast system work very very well. I have a Ubuntu server running MiniDLNA, all my CD's have been ripped onto that and I have recently started buying new recordings from Pentatone and Channel Classics, easy, brilliant, and great sound quality.

It's only the latest Yamaha products that have the SCMS-T restrictions...
Interesting that you're not seeing the extra menu on Bluetooth output - is this via the amps GUI or via the MusicCast app? I have a MusicCast 50 at home and it allows me change the Type1/2/3. Maybe it's different on the RXV485? I would find that odd though as they're from the same generation.
Thanks for your perseverance with me :)
I hadn't actually worked out how to connect to bluetooth using MusicCast but after a bit of a google I have found the menu you are talking about.
I have now actually managed to connect to some AliExpress clone airpods but the audio is up to a second out when watching TV. My wife said that she had the same issue when using them to watch Netflix on her laptop so I think you get what you pay for.
I have also tried all three modes with the Apple Airpods but unfortunately just get the copyright message that Paul1977 was seeing. I will try some Sony bluetooth earphones tomorrow.
Yup - bluetooth audio / video sync isn't recommended to be fair, it's largely going to be rubbish unless you have super low-latency codecs in play, even then the feedback I've heard is that the low latency codecs don't have the best stability re: connection.
Wireless headphones for AV use should still be RF where possbile IMHO.
But if you can achieve a compromise you're happy with using Bluetooth, more power to you.
I bought two Sony bluetooth headphones today, the basic in ear WI-C200B and the over ear WH-XB900N. Both work with the RV-V485 and I was able to connect to them just using the basic bluetooth menu on the receiver itself rather than through MusicCast.
Obviously the WH-XB900N's sound much better but both suffer a slight delay in synchronization between video and audio. It looks like I can get rid of some of it using lipsync though.
The WI-C200B's also seem to have a much smaller bluetooth range than the WH-XB900N's.
Good to hear you have it sorted - the WiFi antennas on the back of the amp take care of the bluetooth signal too, so try mucking with the angle of them to see if the range increases.
Yes, I was going to have a play with those as they are currently angled behind the unit because I forgot they were there and broke one off while trying to get the unit out of the cabinet a few days ago. It seems to have clipped back on OK though.
As an aside, I am loving the WH-XB900N's. I am back at work today and have had them on for most of the day. I got them for $225 in the Harvey Norman Boxing Day sale. They didn't have any in stock locally but I managed to get Noel Leeming to price match even though they were selling them for $359, and they reckon that was already $90 off!
Thanks again for your help.
Hi , I ended up here looking for the same answer and discovered if you press mute button speakers are muted but headphones work....I hope this helps you.
Thanks but my headphones work regardless of whether the main speakers are muted or not. The key for me seems to have been the need to find SCMS-T compatible headphones.
