With the COVID 19 components shortages and vastly increased shipping costs, discounts on anything a) electronic and b) heavy, large, fragile or bulky will be very hard to come by (preaching to the knowledagable here of course but relates to my next point).

TV's have been getting better and better for sure, and are now thin and light enough to move around fairly easily - but they are thin enough to be very fragile and are still packed as large bulky items due to this fact (and in some cases most of the weight is still there in the base rather than the TV itself to act as an anchoring point.

So fewer TVs produced, fewer TVs shipped or shipping prices accommodated == in some cases prices here likely to be above RRP before long.

And of course as with any supply shortage, it if can be obtained and flipped for a profit, it probably will be.

If experience over the past year on PS5s, Xboxes, PC parts, Cars, Houses etc. can tell us anything - if you want something now - get in, preorder if you can, but be prepared to pay at least RRP if not more - else your item will be come unobtanium for the foreseeable future.

If I were in the market for one of these (I wish, missus has forbade any more TV purchases till one dies - I checked - it has to be of natural causes...) - I'd be at my preferred retailer and pre-ordering from their first in-bound shipment.

Agree on the improvements and I'm seeing this across a lot of electronics now.  Everything is already good enough in most cases, be it cell phones or cameras etc.

We're also seeing the pace of development drop off in terms of significant steps forward, so most things are incrementally better each generation for several years.

Recently PS5/Xbox Series X are examples of a big jump, so they're unlikely to be improved upon majorly for another 4 or so years, with just incremental changes after that (usually smaller form factor changes on those, which often just move likes of power supplies out to enteral bricks instead of internal).

Move to 8k will be real when it arrives, but for now that's again held up with a lack of content, usually youtube/netflix will take the lead on this with physical discs having mostly gone now.

Adding to this Covid has forced a bit of a make do with what you've got situation.  Whilst I'd love a new TV personally, the reality is my current one is good enough and with firmware updates the Sony Android TVs are mostly rock solid and clutter free now (finally).

I will check out the TV's, but have opted away from the Frame now having reassessed the physical room layout requirements.  Now likely to opt for a 'standard' TV on an adjustable/flexi wall mount, so no longer require the Frame concept and having a separate box may be more of a hassle in this instance.  Will still likely want to feed it with a DVD or bluray signal, so maybe the separate box is a bonus.  Will check which TV's beyond the frame include the separate AV box concept, as will make installation look nicer (can't cut into the walls to lay wiring here for a 'proper' install job unfortunately).

Sorry, bit of a rant.  Will look out for the new TVs coming through.  Cheers.

The Samsung 2021 lineup was launched yesterday - I have posted their releases (including prices) now:

Samsung debuts 2021 Neo QLED TV introducing Mini LED (geekzone.co.nz)

Samsung delivers a cinema experience at home with The Premiere (geekzone.co.nz)

The Premiere project is damn impressive and the TVs are absolutely beautiful. I have taken some photos from a viewing yesterday:

My bedroom 43" Sony Android TV has issues with it's uneven lighting on one side being brighter than the other. I had hoped maybe OLED was going to be available in smaller sizes, but seemingly not for a while longer or a long longer.

What is the second best choice behind OLED ?

Nice TV.  At least they have a decent base on them  not feet at each end of the TV  like so many models these days.

Not much, as OEMs have treated < 55" TVs as the poor cousin. Best bet is to find a VA panel with a not-poos backlight implementation. Something like the Samsung Q60A could be passable in that regard, even if it is an edge-lit model.

One would hope that LGE and LGD users would be bringing their 48" OLED models here soon, as well as an apparent 42" size that has yet to materialize, but who knows when. It will be great if JOLED brings some competition to that space as well.

The Premiere looks pretty cool, but it should be at that price. Vincent Teoh did a quick unboxing and setup video of the LSP9T recently

It's a real shame we don't get more affordable UST projectors here, I would ditch my TV in a flash for a half-decent one if it was even OLED price comparable

Anyone seen any comparative reviews between Neo QLED and OLED?

Quite keen on the Art Mode TVs due to the extremely slim wall mount option.

How long is the standard AV box thin cable that runs between the TV and box?

Answered my own question there, 5m out of the box, 15m available to purchase separately.

This setup would be ideal in a small bedroom or apartment where you don't want the TV protruding into the room too much.

Can see the 50" on sale at Noels for example now, but not the 2021 43"?

Nothing substantial yet although early reviews of the Neo QLED point at them getting closer and closer to OLED performance.

Can't see anyone offering the 43" 2021 Art Frame TV locally.  Have to jump to 50" before you can find a stockist.

Just got Samsung's The Premiere triple-laser projector here. I saw it on a much bigger screen during the demo day but at home the largest I could get was 100 inches - this must also be the most expensive level we ever had because it shows exactly how warped this wall is.

Never mind. The picture is amazing and the built-in sound is incredible. Installation was pretty simple (although I had to do the manual install because the Android app couldn't finish up linking it to my Samsung account). Login to most apps (Netflix, Prime Video, Spotify, except TVNZ On Demand) were over web - a blessing since I use very long random passwords for each service.

It does have DVB-T tuner but I did not connect to an aerial as most of the content we consume is streaming.

I use John Wick (and its sequels) as a reference for HD/HDR content as the picture in those movies are amazing, and this didn't disappoint.

So very impressive.

I haven't plugged any external source yet (three HDMI) but will try with an XBox later.
