Looks a great TV but havent been wow'd by the picture quality, we were replacing an old Sony TV so I was expected to be mind blown.

Sounds like OLED envy.. as for choice of settings. I use forums like avforums and there are dedicated threads there for models and settings.

Decided to go with the Samsung Frame

Samsung Frame owners, have you modified any of the picture settings outside of the defaults?

I got a Frame last month and used the RTing settings to begin with and dialled down the gamma a bit and enhanced contract and brightness. It's in a fairly well lit room and I'm very happy with picture quality!

Awesome, tonight I'll play with the settings as per RT.

Possible to post your settings so I can replicate?

Just purchased last week the Samsung

Samsung 65" QN90A 4K Neo QLED 2021 Television

Absolutely love it.... beautiful colours, clear precise blacks.... my pick, little more than your budget, they did have the 55" model for $3499 from memory...

RTing Settings?

I found this website.

How To Calibrate Your TV - RTINGS.com

And this reddit thread

(3) Do you trust RTINGS TV settings? : OLED (reddit.com)

Is it as simple as that RTings.com carries settings for most new TVs?

LG OLED. No contest, anything else is 2nd rate. Samsung knows this, but will never resort to buying LG panels for their TVs.

I get OLED ahead of any form of LCD, but to suggest all other brands of OLED are second rate is a little bit of an exaggeration, me thinks.

Given that they talked about Samsung not buying LG's OLED panels, I'm going to go out on a limb and say they are meaning LG Display (makes the OLED panels for 99% of consumer OLED TVs) and not LG Electronics (makes consumer electronics, including TVs which use LGD panels).

Since LG Display's panels are the only real contender as a supplier of consumer OLED panels for now, it's not an incorrect statement, since there isn't any competition essentially. Hopefully we will see more from BOE, JOLED, and SD to re-invigorate the space, since LGD has effectively stalled in OLED development.

I'm really hoping there's some sort of OLED push into the mid-range next year that was supposed to happen this year already, although all that the 2021 sets seemed to do was even more elaborately wall off feature sets into strange and confusing products in the 4K space. Getting a decent motion handling + 2.1 + Not crapola brightness set is mission impossible for under $3k if you want something with 65 inches. The Reddit consensus is 'don't buy the X90J, buy the X95 or the A80 for a little bit more!' which is like... a lot more here.

Infuriating when you see US reviews of the big name brands which basically say "Don't buy this, buy this Hisense/TCL model instead! It's way better!" and you're just left going "Uh.... well, not only do we not have those options, we also pay megabucks for the ones you're telling us not to buy in the first place".

I am now proudly pushing my KDL-W series into its 14th year and counting for a damn good reason. Double-annoying because JB Aus seems to carry Hisense branded sets but unsure if these are the same spec as the American ones they love so much.

Well one factor to consider is we get royally screwed on pricing here in NZ.

I weep when I see the US pricing on the LG OLED C1 range:

US pricing on 65” is under $3000 in NZ dollars ($4,000 is standard here)

and the 77”? $4200 NZ dollars (vs $7000 is the cheapest you will find here !!!)

It is simply outrageous, and I don’t understand why no-one is parallel importing them from other countries.

In NZ the C1 65" has been as low as $3695, its not terrible when you consider how small NZ's market is compared to the USA. The larger sizes just aren't as popular here hence the larger differences. If you imported and paid GST and duty on a 65" you'll find its not much cheaper than a local one.

Out of curiosity: Do Samsung smart TV's here in NZ have the issue I have read about overseas with banner advertising that you can't turn off etc?

I've read so much online about it, that it has really put me off Samsung Smart TV's.

This is region specific as I understand, I have nothing on mine.

We bought an LG C1 55" last week and I've just started looking around the 'net for calibration advice.

I just found this recent YouTube item by well-respected, long-term TV adviser, Vincent Teoh. Seems that C1's and G1's built from October 2021 onward have a software problem with HDMI 2.2 affecting their playing of 4K content from XBox Series X, PS5, Blu-Ray boxes etc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifkarBLgnWw

LG have acknowledged the issue and have told him that it will be fixed with an upcoming update of WebOS.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
