However - still interested for feed back on whether I should now unwind the following two settings changes I made in trying to resolve:

1. Control Panel/file services - I checked both 'Enable SMB service' and WS-Discovery 'Enable Windows network discovery

2. Control Panel/shared folder/edit shared folder video - I updated (a) Local User: Guest = read/write, and (b) System internal user/MediaServer/Custom = all permissions enabled.

  1. Yes / Maybe

    1. SMB is for file access from your PC to the NAS using Windows/ File Explorer (i.e. not a web browser). If you had that disabled previously without any impact then I would disable it again
    2. WS-Discovery is what it say on the tin, make your device more discoverable. It's one of those auto-magic services

  2. Yes
