Looks like the labour day sales brought a mini price war on the LG 55" C3. At one point yesterday I saw $2670 now ~$2800, so down about 23% at NL and HN. It a shame we don't see similar discounts at 65". Not much of a discount on the C845. Hopefully better luck with black Friday sales.

I've got a 65" TCL C845 TV. Picture is astounding compared to the Sony's I had before (not as good as OLED mind) and Google TV runs fine on it. Works great with my Series X and the sound is quite decent from it. Some irritating issues relating to ARC volume setting, in that you can't actually see the number you're at, but I think this is a more generic Google TV issues according to TCL as it affects their soundbars as well.

Ultimately a damn fine purchase for ~3200 not long after release last year!

Pro's

Good (great?) picture for casual watching. Moving from my old OLED this is 1000% more appropriate for daytime viewing in the lounge. Should never have brought that OLED in hindsight.

Huge

Price - nothing else matches the value in it's price class as far as i can see

VRR etc. for gaming

Cons

Definitely has something weird with the dimming algorithm - to get it black it seems to crush the darkest bits of the image. Not noticeable for casual (read family, netflix, movies acquired from sources other than blurays) watching. Have to fiddle with the dimming settings to see what works for you.

Vidyaa os is a bit crap. Don't use it much anyway, have a googletv and xbox.

Not quite as bright as I expected. Viewing angles are 'ok'. Actually kinda wish I'd got the 75" so I could have it on a little bit of an angle.

Will I keep it? Yeah, for the money am very happy. The 8 series and the tcl c845 series get brighter, cost a bit more, but don't have 85" models. Could consider those.

Though checkout applianceoutlet.co.nz - they seem to have some pretty good deals for large tv's at the moment from lg and samsung, you might be able to do a bit better for similar money.

Similar vibe here.
We run inwall speakers at all times for TV, so I'm not worried about the in TV sound.
I run a harmony remote though and for this whole setup to work well I MUST have discrete IR codes for the various hdmi inputs.
When we tried a veon years ago that was a major flaw, in that you couldn't make it switch to hdmi2 for example, only cycle through them and that got risky real quick if it lost it's way.

Currently running Sony android tv but considering upgrading in future and wondering if there is a quality panel AND processor option out there on a par with a sony but at a lower price.
Not interested in OLED really as this will be in a sunny room most of the time and I don't care about poor tv audio quality (especially common if it's a very thin TV).
Must have harmony compatibility via IR input commands though.

Watching this thread also with the above in mind.

Hey, currently looking at a 75" TV and wondering what the usual current recommendation is?

I'm thinking around the 3k mark. I'm not really interested in the very best picture (I think - but feel free to convince me otherwise), but I like the idea of local dimming etc. So my picture is at least better. I also like the idea of a fast processor (if that makes a difference) for loading apps etc.

It doesn't need to be thin or light.

I have Samsung gear, but not tied to getting a Samsung TV.

Back to this thread - Weird dimming issues are solved by turning off AMD Freesync, and just using the standard VRR capability.

Don't ask me why, but freesync disables the backlight dimming (which is what makes the tv look good). If you don't have it hooked up to a gaming PC I can't see it being an issue. With the Xbox Series X VRR works fine with freesync off.

I got the Hisense TV 65" UK7NZ picture quality is great but I'm having lots of issues with it.

LG Soundbar on ARC fails to work soo many times. Occasionally when you turn the volume up the controls freeze then your at max volume. Some days it does not even see it so i have to change the settings to force it to see it. Tried Bluetooth but there is a lag and you cant adjust the timing when on bluetooth also after a couple of days it loses the bluetooth connection and also needs to be reconfigured. My Old Sony TV never had an issue.
VIDAA OS is terrible. Its locked down and automatically updates apps to whenever Vidaa updates so new app features are delayed.
Quick launch apps on the remote are a pain I find they are too easy to bump and have ones that are questionable as to why they are there(NBA League pass, Fifa)
Plex app on local should direct play but for some reason its always transcoding even on 1080p content.
TV channels just disappear and ya need to re-scan. Happens about once a month.

Put a 4k chromecast on it just for the Apps to fix VIDAA.

Not sure what to do with it now I've had a 5 months. Sell it on for a loss or just struggle on?

For your first issue - firstly try turning off AMD Freesync. It's on the game menu, or somewhere in the tv picture settings. Secondly check if your soundbar is arc or earc. If it's arc make sure to turn off earc. I had a similar issue with an LG soundbar as well. All sorted now.

Agreed Vidyaa is pretty rubbish. Don't use it myself - get a streaming stick/device.

Agreed buttons are dumb. Use a stick and its remote :)

I tried the plex app early on in the piece and it worked ok, but my testing was not extensive. There are setting in the plex app to control quality. Check there, as it may be set on a low quality which is causing transcoding.

Don't use the tv tuner so can't help you there.

It gets hard to argue when its at the point of 'average lifespan'. If it had happened at 4 years like the other thread, yeah I'd have got involved.
