Help! I have been tasked with getting the rugby on to a TV on the other side of the house from the Sky box...

We have ethernet cable runs from a central switch so should* be technically straightforward, right? The distant Sony telly has an HDMI in (and for that matter, ethernet - but I guess that's of no use). Or do I need to feed the signal into the big AVR and from there to the TV?

Obviously any required kit must be readily available (ideally in Dunedin)...

Feasible or not?

Cheers all in advance

Well I hope you “enjoyed” the Rugger…….not sure if you still want to do this….if so read on…..

i send from my Sky Box to another TV in another room using a Concord HDMI to Ethernet gadget from Jaycar. I don’t see why you couldn’t come direct out of the Sky box to the transmitter box (I’m coming out of an AVR). Basically the Transmitter is powered but uses PoE to power the box on the receiver end. Two important points:

1) you don’t want to go through a network switch. Using a patch panel I go directly to the other Ethernet port in the other room.

2) one gotcha I had was that that in my case, the remote TV (small Panasonic LED) supports Dolby Sound Broadcasts, but doesn’t seem to support Dolby via the HDMI ports. So if the sent signal has surround sound, no sound comes out at the remote end. The clunky fix is that when you want ‘remote sound’ and the source is Dolby, you jump into the settings on the Sky Box and change it from Automatic to Manual (and then you set the sound to say, 2 ch stereo). The remote TV isn’t terribly old, but newer ones just may not have this issue.

Good Luck.

Steve

Thanks Steve - really helpful

Alas sparks didn't label the cables and the prospect of tracing 40 to see where they go is not an attractive one, so the patch panel may be a challenge.

Also the TMO has just informed me that she didn't see anything wrong ;-)
