+1 for the Sony XM4.

I’ve had the XM2 and XM3. I had some flybuys and got the XM5 but the head band wasn’t as padded as the XM3 (hurt the top of my head - doesn’t help that there isn’t a lot of hair there anymore 😂) so gave them to daughter and went back to XM3. Then I went Bose QC and found them too hot for my ears, however they are just as good as the Sony ones. Gave those to other daughter who is heading to the UK. She seems to like them. I have settled on the XM4, they are great. I have tried them all on flights and the NC is great on them all.

Definitely recommend going in and trying them out first.

I recently bought a pair of ANC Beats headphones: Read my review in above Topic here

Since purchase I have also bought from Temu; a 2 x pair of cone washable covers as I mainly wear my headphones exercising. Plus I purchased a more padded headband due to the shape of my head which has a high central ridge and the Beats head band was not soft enough.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

XM3’s personally have been great, though I take it the ANC has hopefully gotten better on newer models. Bose qc’s are next up from friends recommendations.

They all work with ANC on the 3.5mm, you can even just turn on the headset with no input to get noise canceling earmuffs (they turn off after 10m or so with no input, can plug a dummy 3.5mm to keep it going). Airfly or other bluetooth dongles are available if you want to use wireless on the plane’s infotainment.

The only other option is IEM’s but they highly vary on the person, not to mention their cost can be pricey and the issue of losing them.

I have used both the Sony WH-1000 XM 3 and the WF-1000 XM3 from about the time they were released. Both are excellent.

The WH-1000 are the Over Ear model and the WF-1000 the In Ear model. Where possible I use the WH-1000 as I prefer the over ear to in ear.

The WF-1000 are very compact and with the carry/charger case give about 9 hours of use between charges. Unlike the WH-1000 you cannot use a 3.5 cable as they are Bluetooth only. Their noise cancellation is very good and they have the same functionality as the WH-1000 with respect to the touch controls on the ear pieces. I generally use the WF-1000 when I'm away for work as they are so compact. Also they work well in bed where the larger WH-1000 model doesn't fit well with pillows.

When I travel overseas I always use the WH-1000. I find them very comfortable and they have the option of using the 3.5 mm socket. They fold nicely and don't take up too much space and have a compact carry case.

If I were buying new I think I'd be looking at the WH-1000 XM4 for use on an aircraft.
