interesrting with the dse, normally they are pretty good.

I have certainly noticed the cost of consumer goods skyrocketing in the past year, some stuff has reduced due to ongoing development but a great deal has gone up it seems mostly due to our weak dollar. Items that were $20 a year back are typically $25 or $30 now.

I even looked at getting a new popcorn hour, cost about $300 last year but now would push well into the high $300's

some store are margin traders but sadly that seems to have filtered through a lot more, more fancy sales but the regular prices on ev everything seem to be extremely high now. supermarkets especially, "those fancy glossy mailers sure aint cheap"

Email feedback@dse.co.nz with your complaint. They normally have a major reaction and are quick to compensate with dse vouchers or heavily discount so that they "apparently" achieve customer satisfaction. You might be able to swindle that deal on your TV you were looking for ;) The whole company has quickly rolled downhill since they believe in spending money to equip staff but not pay them enough to keep them. Easy to see how these rookie mistakes are made /yawn.

mortonman: A rant about misleading sales
Popped into DSE last night looking for a car stereo and got attracted to the sony tv's at the back. They had a KDL V5500 priced at $2399 incl the 20% off. I though 20% off is a good deal. Looking at the nice shiny full HDTV's my love for my SD panny started to wane. I did a bit of digging and ...

I would stare clear of DSE. When I was looking at buying two 32" Sony iDTV's the best price the sale person could do was $1699 for two down from $1899. Noel Leeming, Bond and Bond, and Harvey Norman all instantly took $250 off each TV for me ($1899 starting price) and were then happy to haggle extra to be better than the other guy (even though NL and B&B are one in the same), haggling also included throwing in other items like USB sticks and photo frames.

Also I recently got a Logitech PureFi Anytime iPod dock with motion sensor Laughing for an alarm clock for $97 (down from $219) from Bond & Bond. DSE sale price was $147.

Shop around I say.

cheers

Slightly off topic but still related to misleading advertising. Just popped into Harvey Normans and Norman Ross since they both have ads stating great sale prices. I checked out the cost of a Canon 50D. They were listing the RRP as $3299 with sale price just under the $3000 mark. No amount of haggling could get that down to what I could buy it for from other sources. One quick check of a dealer in Christchurch had a price of $2190 (and this is not a grey import).

Makes you wonder how many people get ripped off this way when they think they see a great offer.

Yes. Don't need or want to buy one of their kits. Just looking to replace my current 10d body. Even if they were kit prices, they're still way too expensive.

With the internet, and in particular price comparison sites like price spy, there is really no excuse for overpaying for large goods like TVs anymore.

Caveat Emptor ? Buyer Beware.

Unless it's cheaper to take the "2 years interest free" rather than slowly paying off a 24% credit card.

Yes I do remember that "buy a TV, Pedestal is extra" I ended up getting that free when I challenged the fact though.
