The B650 is GREAT!!! well I think anyway :)

and yes $500 for an extra 6" is worth it. You will always say I should have got the bigger one if you go the 40". Sure the 46 looked huge when I first got it but now I'm used to it and it is just right.....or maybe I could go bigger:)

Blue ray is excellent on this TV, I use a PS3 to play Blue ray and it works just fine. Took me 3 months to finally watch a Blue ray movie and now I cant get enough.

Just picked up a 40 inch B650 in the weekend and really enjoying it.

Check appliance shed out if you can, they were offering the LA40B650 for 2371 icluding the free 22, I'd think they'd have a deal on the 46 also. I then took this price to Harvey Normans which they matched with an HDMI cable and conceivably a stronger warranty.

Great set and there are good settings on hdtvtest.co.uk to get you started.

'Tis Labour Weekend my hearties, D-Day for my LCD TV purchase.

Went into town armed with creditcard aiming to buy the B650 but found it's not on special anywhere.

However the RGB LED Backlit KDL46X4500 (BRAVIA X4500 Series) is and holy jesus it's a glorious looking screen.

Current deal for KDL46X4500: RPP $5,000 - some_ammount +20% off labour weekend deal = around 3.7k, plus it includes W-Series VAIO Netbook.

Comparing that against the 46" B650 at 3.5k makes it extremely temping - I think I've found my TV, although this is admittedly alot more than I initially wanted to spend :)

I'm kinda worried about possible input lag and ghosting though, so the kind salesman agreed to let me connect a laptop and do a bit of testing , which I'll do tomorrow.

Yes, but are you interested in DLNA? If so, you might want to check which file types Sony can handle cf Samsung.

Infrasound, I have also been looking at getting the LA46B650 - and have gone out searching for the best price today.

Bond and Bond had the best starting price of $3499 on their 30 months interest free deal going on. I believe they could drop it by $200 on a 12 month interest free term. The killer was a cash price of $2999.

LV Martin could not go lower than $3499 and did not have any in stock in the area so would be a next week delivery.

Norman Ross had a starting price of around $3900 (can't quite remember) but the sales kid wasn't very good so I promptly left.

Harvey Norman has their 4 year interest free deal going on this week so while I was in the area popped up to check out what they were offering. With an RRP of $4299 and a floor price of $3890 on their 4 year interest free deal, the salesman could only go to $3499 as a cash price, and he was very honest when he said if you could get it for $2999 cash then get it as it was a damn good deal. I guess he was dismayed that he was not going to make a sale, but I appreciated the honesty.

I went back to bond and bond and picked up the 46" for the cash price. Deal of the weekend I'd say.

So if you aren't sold on the Sony you looked at and are still keen for the Samsung definately get out there and see what the floor staff will offer you as you never know.

I will be sending away for the Series 4 22" TV that they had on offer as well. Bond and Bond had that for sale at around $700 I think.

The set also played .avi and .mkv files straight from my USB stick great, cannot wait to go back with the wagon and bring her home and get her setup.

I got my B650 from DSE. They matched the interest free that the others are offering, their extended warranty was only $250 compared to $400+, and they matched the deal of the wall bracket I was quoted.
The only downside, is that they did not have it in stock, so I will have to wait for it. But I do not for the deal I got.

EDIT: Just having a look at the terms and conditions of the free 22" on the Samsung wesbite.

1. The Samsung Take 2 Bonus 22” LCD TV (the "Promotion") begins at 12:01am on Wednesday the 15th of July 2009 and ends at 11:59pm on Wednesday the 2nd of November 2009 (the "Promotion Period").

Should that read...

ends at 11:59pm on Wednesday the 4th of November 2009

or

ends at 11:59pm on Monday the 2nd of November 2009

I would assume that it is meant to be the 4th, as this would be inline with the original closing date of 30/09/2009 as that was also a Wednesday.

Hi,
Just got one of these LA46B650 LCD TV's (replacement/upgrade for my faulty LA46N81BX)
What a great picture/TV.
But I have one nagging issue & please correct me if I'm wrong, When in 16:9 mode there should be black bars top & bottom.
When I try to change from Auto Wide to 16:9 it dosn't change. It stays in auto wide mode...I can zoom & get 4:3 mode but not 16:9. Most of the time I don't mind, but on some programs like the news the news readers are looking very strange. any ideas anyone.

You don't say what your signal source is - please advise. If you are watching analog then the transmission is 4:3 with a 13:9 image within this 4:3 frame so you will see black bars top and bottom. These transmissions will always be 4:3.

In respect to DVB-S freeview or Sky via a decoder you need to set the decoder on 16:9 rather than 4:3 letterbox (If you set TV to 4:3 and aspect ratio looks correct then the decoder is on a 4:3 setting).

Your TV should display the DVB-T transmissions via inbuilt tuner correctly as all native 16:9.

Hi everyone, just thought I'd update you on how I got on during the labour weekend sales.

I had my heart set on the LA46B650 and my next choice was the Sony KDL46W5500.

To cut a long story short, the Samsungs just didn't drop in price at all during the sales and therefore the best deal was at Noel Leemings who had 20% off all Sony's. So the KDL46W5500 was down to $2399. I went to a few other shops who either didn't have it in stock or only matched it - Norman Ross though gave me a $2345 quote but didn't have one in stock so I'd have to pick it up the following week. I went back to Noel Leemings and they matched that price so I purchased it for $2345!

I know that the LA46B650 is supposed to be better than the KDL46W5500 but for around $1100 less I can live with it. I've also got a HTPC so don't actually need the media functions of the LA46B650. I also have to say that the KDL46W5500 has been fantastic and I'm very happy with it. I've been watching a lot of sport and turning motion flow on really does seem to make a difference as I can't see any ghosting or lag at all.

Hi Spyware, Sorry should of said I'm using the inbuilt DVB-T.
Note: Auto wide fills the whole screen with picture.
I had a vantage dvb-t box connected to my old TV which was first set to letter box giving black bars top & bottom. I thought this was the way freeview sent the picture. You could then zoom or use centre cut etc if you wanted your screen filled up.
I think I will take a couple of pics tomorrow night to show what I mean.

Should I start a new thread for this or is ok in this one.
