Am finally looking to buy a new TV.  Have been mainly looking at the Samsung LA46B650:
http://www.dse.co.nz/dse.shop/en/product/GE6459

Anyone here have this model and like to share their impressions?

I'm also keen to hear about peoples experience with other 46" LCD's.

Am hoping the price will creep down to the $3,000 mark which isn't entirely impossible with the high dollar, plus I'm expecting to see some decent discounts at the labour weekend sales.

[EDIT MOD RC: changed link to one that works.]

Never assume it is the TV when Sky's broadcast standards are on par with a banana republics. I gave my Sky decoder back to them and would never consider their service mainly because of the poor picture quality.

The v5500 doesn't come close to the B650 for 24p video

Compare a 40W55500 wih a 40B650 today and they were very similar for freeview and 24p bluray playback.

I am unsure of how you rated the 24p quality? I have one of these TV’s myself right now in the living room, I regularly watch bluray movies... and the quality is... outstanding!

Please check the website links I have posted to see the spec's the TV’s have... they support "24p"

I've been looking to purchase a new TV for quite some time now, and have recently toured most of the shops around Wellington which sell LCDs.

The LA40B650 (40" version of what the OP mentioned) caught my eye immediately, it seriously appeared to be the best looking LCD at the price point - the seller even offered it at $2.4k from its original price of $3k, which makes it very tempting indeed. I saw it side by side against the high-end Sony's (cant remember the exact model sorry) and felt the picture quality was slightly better.

Even compared against the new LED back-lit Samsung (UA40B6000) I felt there was not a huge difference in contrast ratio, the screen still had very nice "deep" looking colour and blacks.

I'm probably gonna pull the trigger on this in the next few days, but can anyone suggest another model me and the OP redjet should be considering though?

What I'm really concerned about is potential "ghosting" of the image and "input lag" when attempting to run interactive media through it (yeah, a fancy name for PC games) - it seems that the specs all manufacturer's provide cant be trusted in this regard. I'm just hoping that it will be suitable for my needs, but I will have 7 days to return it if it ain't.

If I do buy it, I'll let ya know and you can PM me any questions you want about it :)

Had a demo in a shop where the same 24p source wsa fed to a bunch of similar spec TVs. Some of them had average 24p playback with some degree of motion judder or blur, others had crystal clear picture and no motion issues.

I would hold off another week or two - you'll see some great prices on Labor Weekend as most shops have sales on then.  A few weeks ago LV Martin had the LA40B650 on sale for $2,399 so you can probably expect similar prices during the sales.  I'm hoping the 46" model will drop to around $3,000 but that is probably wishful thinking on my part!

Hmmm, is an extra 6 inches worth it for $500 more? Guess I'm gonna have to go back there and try look at a 46" next to a 40".

Buying new electronics really seems to bring out the slightly obsessive-compulsive pedantic streak in me :(

i use the LA46B650 46" with PS3, XBox360 and Sky HDMI and i have to say this TV is awsome!

100% recommended from my sight.

The only thing you should do is change the picture settings for each device.

if you need support with that use this link to get the best picture results....

Don't forget the B650 models come with a free 22 inch LCD which you could easily sell for $500+ at the moment. That special at LV Martin was good, I would think it would pop up again.

The B550 series do a good job of 24p for a bit cheaper (no 100Hz)

I've found the LA40B650 to be a great TV apart from a Audio sync problem on TV3 ( see here: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=83&topicid=40805&page_no=2)
I would suggest you test this in the shop if possible as the problem is affecting a few Samsung LCD owners but does not appear to be wide spread.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

If I can't get a decent price on the B650 I'll probably go for the B550.
