I have 10m run to my projector via $30 (second hand off trademe) dick smith cable. It's pretty thick, has nice shiny gold ends, but more importantly it works great. If it didn't work great I'd have to look at an inline amp, or a better cable.

I also have a 10mtr dick smith (purple colour really chunky) only problem is that it wouldnt do HDCP from myskyHDi to either my projector or LCD so i had to replace it.

I currently have 2 cables from Rapoloav 1x15mtr and 1x10mtr connected via a splitter to my receiver which is feed by HTPC and MyskyHDi. Not the cheapest cables but as I was at the 10mtr point I didnt want to go to cheap - especially after the HDCP issue on the dickies cable. Think I paid about $120 for 15mtr?

Lots of people here with long cable runs. I wonder where they put it all.

I use a 1 metre cable cheap cable, and zero problems at all.

Thats a shame that such an impressively long, purple, chunky unit simply was not up to the task.

Quality not quantity I guess.

Have had problems with a cheap 5m HDMI cable and a PS3 doing 1080P mode - everything else was fine. We got that cable for some fault finding after not having stuff work thru the pretty in wall cables - had the same problem as with the in walls - white sparkles over the top of 1080P mode and frequent blanking of the screen.

However using the cable that the sparky installed in wall without the extra meter cable and wall plate on each end worked just fine so it wasnt the PS3 or the TV. Also the plugs on the cheap cable were just clip together shells and hotglue inside it, rather than a proper molded together connector.

DX have some very nice looking cables for a little more than the cheap nasty ones, with braiding on the outside etc - thats what I would go for so it just looks a hell of a lot nicer and the plugs dont look like they will disintigrate on you.

Incidentally its always the plugs that fail me on cheap RCA cables - particually the metal "high end" cables at DSE that have them soldered of all things.

HDMI cable are all the same. Sure, cheaper ones can damaged more easily, but other than that quality and sound difference isnt noticable. Buy the cheaper ones, they probably wont even get damaged.

Haha, I think Monster deserves to be singled out, it's hilarious. I liked the gizmodo review a few years back when they compared the monster cables to some coathangers

Even this is cheaper and has more features(Belkin PF60 $899NZD)

Did anyone see the test on Fair Go?
Some interesting inaccuracies there...
1: The professional installer cut open an HDMI cable and pointed to the Red / Green / Blue cables...
WHAT?!!?!?
There goes his credibility.

2: Some cables were shown in the hidden camera test and said to be one brand... when in reality they were made by another brand (Panasonic cables were called Pudney).

3: The group test involved a Freeview test pattern, which to my knowledge isn't full HD... So I wouldn't necessarily call the test 100% thorough.

BUT - the segment did make the general public aware that they shouldn't be paying so much for cables. Yay :)

errr. those aren't NZ plug sockets. what they selling that for?

Is it legal to sell non NZ electical equipment?

Unfortunately, they have the NZ/AU plugs in now too :S
