vinnieg: Actually, konka.co.nz has less specs, since the manual isn't working for me in Chrome and i'm struggling to navigate their site

Which is why I did not link to it

I tried a few different models, and none of the manuals are available online. All dead links.

sbiddle: Konka is one of the biggest TV brands in China. I'm sure they can't be complete and utter rubbish!

Where did you find this out?

When we were considering buying the 22", I remember reading this on these forums but wasn't able to find any mention of them elsewhere.

I've seen the Sony S 40" (full HD) without in-built Freeview tuner for under $1100.
For around $200, I'd go with the Sony every time.
The perception of quality is an individual thing, but the proof will be in the picture and the ease of use.
Try the remote, compare the screen next to a similar sized HD TV and make your call then.

seems to be a few places advertising the V5500 whichi is the fUll HD with freeview for $1356 at the cheapest too, or Dick smith: http://www.dse.co.nz/dse.shop/en/product/GE6463 1387 but I was in the Manakau DSE on Sat while on Holiday and found that they were offering the 5 series Samsung 40" instead(since they ran out of Sonys at the store)

I'd say get the Samsung or Sony over it

vinnieg: I'd say it'd be a good deal if you wanted to say use it outside for summer(under cover of course) or in a garage above the pool table or in a kids playroom.

Picture on the Konka's is really bad and the lifespan, well yeah....just remember though, Consumer Guarantees act against Dick Smith if anything goes wrong within the first few years :)

Doesnt quite work that way if you buy something that is cheaper than normal. Usually if it's outside the warranty period (which is normally set by the manufacturer) then its not going to be covered by the CGA (unless you can prove that the manufacturers definition of 'reasonable time' is much less than it should be.

However, DSE do have that awesome 14 day right of return. Just be really careful with it, keep all the packaging, and if you arent happy with it after a week, take it back and keep shopping for something better.

Brand, smand i say.... it's a full def LCD screen.... 5ms repsonse time, i say GO FOR IT!!

When i purchased my 40 inch Sony Bravia LCD TV 4 years ago, i paid $5,000.... it's not even full HD and has an 8ms response time.

Ok let me just start by saying I work at DSE and the tv wall is my baby. The Konka 42 is one of the worst tvs I have seen come through my store. The colours are waaay off even after calibration, black level is abysmal but if all your looking for is screen size per dollar I say go for ......a panasonic x10.

I have no brand loyalties but generally the bigger the brand the more they can spend on panel development. Resoloution and response time are two of the more irrelevant specs on a tv. Unless you sit very close to your tv it's unlikely you can spot the difference between 720p and full 1080 on a 42". Response time is meaningless unless you're going to play FPS hardcore and in that case input lag is a far more important factor. Simon14's 4 year old Sony probably still has a superior picture.
