I tried media portal but I couldn't figure it out and so got primitive results. More a reflection on me than Media Portal. So... if all the other channels are using HE-AAC then how do I get my half dozen or so choices of media players to cope with this, do I need to install further codecs etc or is there a holy grail of a media player I should be using?. I really wanted to use WMP11 but it won't open .ts files so I'm using media player classic. I'm really thinking I'm close now ...... aren't I? (hysterical laughter) if can get the full monty with TV3?
Would you be able to identify from the set-up tabs what decoders you're using now and what you're system has available in the way of codecs for you media player. What did you play it back on? Thanks
After a quick google it seems that HE-AAC is trickier than I first thought. Most players require the ability to select the Monogram codec for it to work (eg. gbpvr, mediaportal). There are a few exceptions like VLC (which I use). WMP 11 doesn't seem to support HE-AAC, however with the right codecs it *can* play back TV3 recordings (only because they have AC3 audio) - in my opinion it does a poor job of this. I think WMP 12 in Windows 7 supports HE-AAC but if you have XP or Vista like me then you'll have to wait for that to be released...
In summary: I think you're quite close, but the last step just isn't possible right now using your current preffered software (can't speak for media player classic), which means you probably need to try something else. There is no such thing as the "holy grail" media player. That sort of thing comes down to personal preferences and requirements...

Will have a very quick look later tonight, but I'm travelling o/s in about 3 days. Have a lot of prep still to do for that so am running short of time at the moment.
Re playback - I just used WinTV7 it self. After recording, just click on the folder icon at the bottom left of the screen. That opens the folder where it stores recorded TV, then double click on the disired file & it will start playing back.
