Very frustrated! I am going to complain to Sky even though I know it probably won't do any good (I'm not even a Sky customer). In general I think providers should stop being so protective of this info - surely if people know what is on then they can make the most of the content that is available (ie. making the information freely available should encourage people to watch more TV, and in Sky's case it is a kind of advertising).

I dropped him an email from the FreeviewNZ Yahoo mailing list. I hope he reads that. Else there must be some GZ'ers who know how to produce a binary from some source code. which looks like C# to me.

nice bit of code that.
eXDee: I see you've provided a link to the compiled version. I noticed there's a GNU license thingy attached to the source. I'm not really an expert at gnu, but I think that means you have to distribute the source code alongside the binary.

So what source is everyone going to use for sky now if those sites don't come back up?
I've got a couple of friends using big screen epg and epg.pvr.geek.nz for the source.
I'm not too worried as only have freeview dvb-s here.

I've always used XMLTVNZ and use the Freeview XML files as the primary source.

Hi there.

I realized today that the EPG NZ wasn't working, thanks SKY

I use EyeTV and like to get my EPG using XML rather than DVB
I managed to write a small toll that grabs listings for al freeview channels and converts it into XMLTV format.
I have posted the latest 7 day EPG at http://files.me.com/cmsmiths/eesmju (ZIPped)

I will get this updated every day under the same link and try to get a proper site going in the long run
Hope this helps some of you.

I think I'll be rolling my own, but I'm only really interested in Freeview and FTA channels on D2 (which were never available anyway). The long program descriptions in the Freeview XML seem to be getting cut off so I'm tempted to scrape, however the effort involved might be too much for me.

eXDee:
lchiu7: That looked promising. I downloaded the DV-DVB Source program and it scanned and found all the Freeview channels. But mheg2xml crashed because I suspect while the author has fixed the source for the Freeview PVR changes, the binary on the site is an older one (2008).

I have no ability to compile the source so I hope somebody who has can do that and put it somewhere - please!

Recompiled with Visual Studio 2008 under .net framework 2.0. Didn't make any changes. Havent tested (dont have access to my HTPC atm). Download Link
Hope it works.

Looking to advance my C# skills some more, it'd be nice to be able to contribute to a project such as this.

Well it didn't seem to work. I ran the dcdvbsource program and it found all the Freeview channels on my Nova-T 500.

I then save the settings as a dvb file and then ran mheg2xmltv. I got this error

Preparing to download data.
Error: An exception occured: Unspecified error

It was the same error I got with the binary hosted on the site so I am just wondering, did you compile that source or did you go to

New source

to grab the latest revision?

Until then I have switched back to using xmltvnz from Reven which is a scraper that works fine. Plus with some slight editing of the XML file it creates I can create channel listings for both Freeview over DVB-T and also the Telstraclear cable channels.

In my case the sky epg is what I require, and I found xmltvnz to come up with a pretty average result.

Hence the reason I moved to epg.pvr.... And as a bonus got colours in the guide..

So I'm considering purchasing a DVBS card to make my own XML file, has anyone else done this?

Cheers
David

DIY works well - but it you need to do alot of scripting to get it working and cleaned up properly for Media Center.

Biggest advantage is that there is nothing Sky, Freeview or anyone else can do about it. You control the results...

I know it's possible, in wmc, if you have a dvbs card you can grab the epg for sky to work with the analogue card and a stb.
But this is messy and means you have to have some extra channels in your guide that you have to watch/record from time to time to get epg to update.
Is there a better way to do it now?

Nothing was changed from the original, so you can grab the source code from the site by grabbing the zip.
But to mate everyone happy, i referenced this next to my download link now.

Can someone test this to let me know if it works?

Works good for me. However, I tried to change the info in my script to download it automatically and it doesn't work anymore... Any help there for someone who doesn't know what half of you are talking about?
