SJB: How does Rob's utility get round the tuner problem on W7? Is it an MCE addin of some sort?

It's a standalone executable that downloads listings from the Internet and turns them into an XMLTV file. From there, they can be imported to your favourite media center program.

The first version will be finished tomorrow. It will scan specified frequencies for EIT/MHEG data and create an XML file (not an XMLTV file though). Someone will need to test it on a terrestrial rig. As I said before I'm satellite only.

It needs access to the tuner so there will be a problem with W7 and MC. Can MC be unloaded and reloaded?

Sounds great!

In Media Center about the only way I know is to guarantee access is to kill the ehrec process, which is pretty messy, but it can be done. You can just stop Media Center, but any recordings will still grab the tuner in the background. There's probably a nice way, maybe Mike Hayton could comment if he's floating around.

If your using DVBVLogic/TVSource (which most people using Sky should be), then it releases the tuner once its finished watching a channel, you could either script a "stop" into Media Center, or if you have two/more tuners, there's a better than even chance one of them will be free.

I can see this code appearing in the form of a plugin for mediaportal in the future which could be rather useful.

I've got the satellite version of this program working but wondered if anybody knew what the parameters are I need to set for a terrestrial tuner. As I can't test it it's guess work.

For terrestrial the code currently sets frequency and bandwidth but there are some other parameters available (guard interval, FEC type and rate and transmission mode). I wondered if anybody uses these in some parameter setup somewhere.

If nobody knows I can probably find some open source stuff with it in but I thought this might be quicker.

I would like an early adopter (aka sucker) to try this utility out. It creates an XMLTV format file now but I have no idea if it is right as I have nothing to test it with.

It processes EIT or MHEG5 data on any user specified frequencies. Also takes dish parameters from ini file.

Ideally, to start with, Win XP/Satellite, if that works we can try other configs. You'll need .NET 3.5 as well.

I'll put together a zip with all exe/dll's/sample ini/readme. Probably this afternon but at the latest tomorrow morning. It's not that big, around 700k in total.

Sounds good. I'll just try with Rusty first to make sure I've put everything together so it runs on someone else's rig. If that's ok we'll start spreading it around.

W7 will be interesting. The Directshow forum has had some topics about BDA problems on W7 but I seem to remember it was about lack of picture or sound so hopefully it won't affect us.

Had it running briefly - I'll have a longer play later on tonite, will send through some notes/log files later on.

It runs on Windows 7 - but doesn't seem to like multiple tuners ie there's no way to select different BDA devices.

Got it working on my WHS which does my guide scraping - but didn't have much of a time for a play.
