Did you look at the links I gave you?
Dishpointer.com will quickly tell you where to aim for this satellite, and how high off the ground you need to aim. This will tell you how to check if there are any obstructions.

Lyngsat will lead you to a coverage map and tell you how strong (or weak) the signal will be. This then tells you what size dish you will need.

If it really is 4 degrees up then you will need a big dish and a clear line of sight will be critical.

these are the Indian/Hindi channels currently free to air

zee music
zee smile
star ustav
Sahara news channels bout 5 regional channels

B4u music (mpeg4 decoder required )
B4u movies  "      "           "         "

i don't know how long the b4u channels will be fta .. the others one are reliable fta ...

there's quite a few Hindi Pakistani channels as well, we don't watch them, i don't know the names of them  ....

you can get zee music channels (these are weaker ones) on a 2.5m dish if set up correctly ... try to go above 2.5m and remeber its a low look angle  satellite you might not able to see it?? (best way is to get a protractor , put it against a striaght pole from the right angle look at the sky from 5 degrees west  )  ...i am in hamilton rural area got no hassle of neighbor complaints or council laws :)

you cant see the tata sky stuff from our skies(they are ku band no hope of getting that here ever  ) the only worthy Indian satellite is asiasat  3 for us in NZ we just too far away to get the indian satellites pointed to India to get the spill over beams .......yeah you could get the cards from india , they are very expensive they dont give the decoders to anyone , only to licensed  cable operators......

You'll need an MPEG-4 satellite receiver to watch the Indian channels that are being broadcasted in MPEG-4 on Asiasat 3. Most satellite receivers can only handle MPEG-2.

6.7 degrees elevation is practically vertical. You will seriously need a good clear line of sight to achieve this, and you will possibly need to mount the dish a bit higher off the ground to clear even fences etc.

You now have a direction to look at (the green line on that picture). Only you can tell if this is going to be possible from your location. -Requires going and having a look.

2.4m dish is the standard in that 2.5m range. I haven't looked up lyngsat to check signal strenths but if others are saying 2.5m I'll go with that. At that size you may need to check local council regulations. In some areas you can go to 2.4m no problems but in others you are limited to much smaller. Worth double checking prior to purchasing anything.

You'll be talking c-band only at that size/location and if you require a dish, lnb and a suitable mpeg-4 capable receiver I can only say you want to check, check and check again as it's a lot of money and effort and it's min half a to a years equivalent subscription to sky for example.

Can you actually see the sky at 6.7 degrees from your location? I would have thought the Western Hills (Horokiwi, Korokoro, Maungaraki) would have prevented you from being able to see the satellite, though, I haven't had a good look.

graemeh: Sky TV has Star TV for $10/month but that's on top of their other costs. You could possibly do it for about $30/month if you can convince them to sell you their Free to Air package that they use when you go on holiday.

Is the Star TV channel included in the $30?

You are going to have to fork out $10 extra for Star Plus on top of whatever package you buy from Sky TV no matter what. If you are going to pay $30 (providing sky gives you this) + $10 for Star Plus = $40, then you might as well pay extra $28/month to Vision Asia and get 11 Indian channels for $68/month.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Nothing. All you can do is call and ask. Sky will have policy they follow, if you fall out of those guidelines, then you will probably be out of luck.
