I would have a guess, that you would be very lucky to get any free channels in NZ. There may be some paid satellite broadcasts that service Australia, which you might be able to get here. Otherwise, get yourself atleast a 3m dish and pray ;)

I'd like free beer and pizza in this world. If you want Indian TV Zee TV is the best option.

Is it free? No it's not.

Like we have said, it is just not going to happen. If you are happy to pay for it, at a monthly cost of $68 then have a look here, http://www.visionasia.co.nz/subscribe/packages.

Otherwise, if you are living in the North Island, say Palmerston North upwards, then get yourself a 3-5m dish, and point it at Asiasat 3S. And good luck! Another map does show all on NZ covered, here is the channel guide for you. But obviously a lot are encrypted.

Sky TV has Star TV for $10/month but that's on top of their other costs. You could possibly do it for about $30/month if you can convince them to sell you their Free to Air package that they use when you go on holiday.

Basically, it's a Sky package that includes the dish, decoder, channel 1, 2, 3 C4 and Prime.

If you want add-ons, they'll generally tell you to sign up to digital basic first...which will cost you around $52.00 a month + your choice of add-ons - i.e. the Indian channel.

If you seriously want to go down the sat route you need to do some checks.

Basically you need to find a sat that carries a channel you want, and then see if you can physically 'see' it from your location and work out if it's free to air or you can somehow get a valid sub card for it.

In Europe / Asia etc there are heaps you can see easily.  We're in NZ though, a long way around the globe from Asia, Europe and India so there is less spill over signal here, meaning you need a huge dish to catch what little signal there is.

It can be done for some satellites and channels though, but I can't say for sure if it's possible from here, for the channels you're after etc.  I'm doing something similar, but for free to air English sports coverage of league and F1.  Seriously it's a big undertaking and to be honest we are a lot more limited here on what usefull free to air content we can see hear in NZ.

Places that will help if you want to investigate sat coverage are:

http://jayx.co.nz/WhatcanIget.html

www.lyngsat.com (which is a nasty initially complicated site wich will however lead you to channel listings, TP settings and coverage maps that give you an indication of dish size requirements), and

www.dishpointer.com which will use google maps to show you where to aim and what the elevation is from your location.

I have decided that the Staellite I want to view from is AsiaSat 3S. Now I want to know what size dish i need, receiver, how much it will cost and also if a professional can give me a quote.

ushare, you may be asking in the wrong place if you want a professional quote. People on geekzone are quite willing to offer some advice and assistance for free, but you should probably contact a local satellite/aerial installer if you want a quote and confirmation that your exact location will be able to receive signals from AsiaSat 3S. (and whether the channels you're after are unencrypted or not).

Also, the occasional "thank you" doesn't go amiss.

i been watching Indian channels of asiasat 3 (well miss has i personally think they crap :P) for about 7 year now ..they have gone more reliable as time has gone on , having said they can go off anytime with out warning as they not designed /designated for our area . there's about 8 or 9 Indian channels free to air at the moment . forget about the encrypted channels they wont give you the decoder soon as you say "overseas" .......asiasat 3 got a low look angle in the sky at 105.5 degrees or bout 4 degrees of the horizon if you got trees or sum ones roof in the way forget it ......and if a neighbor complains about the dish you might have to get a costly permit from your local council.......you can install them yourself if you know what you doing ....i ve installed about 5 , as a hobbyists....
