Leave your setup the way it was in your second post.

Add:

1 - component cable (red/green/blue) from Freeview to TV (for picture)
2 - 2RCA (red/white) from Freeview to TV (for sound)
3 - 3RCA (yellow/white/red) from Freeview to Scart Adapter** into Line 3 on VCR (for picture and sound)


DONE!

Note:  You can use a yellow/white/red cable as a component cable (its just copper wire after all)

yellow = green
white = blue
red = red
