I think I will be getting contents insurance before purchasing another TV. Probably won't get one for 6+ months though. I can't afford to pay the current one off and save for a new one at the same time. at least it's interest free...

Both Cracks in TV

The external glass is still smooth to the touch so this is the glass inside that has cracked.

Shouldn't someone else be now paying it off for you, you didn't destroy it.

Kinda blows my theory that plasmas are better than LCDs if you have kids that like throwing stuff around!
May be better to email your pictures to someone technical to save the callout fee initially.

Neither are good when it comes to resisting impacts.
Both LCD's and Plasma's are just TV when it comes down to it, not flak jackets...
It's why Kinect makes a lot of sense to me - when compared to Wii's. No controllers to go through the screen. Wink

Unfortunately Bridgecorp, Hanover et al have disappeared. They were pretty big on this type of lending.

Just wait till Harvey Norman has one of it's 'NO PAYMENTS FOR 150 YEARS DEALS!!!@!@@!'

Although, if you don't have a TV, you won't hear or see their Ads screaming at you. You should be able to pick up a TV with no payments for 12 months and no interest for another 12 after that. HN seem to cycle these deals through pretty regularly.

my 2 year old 46 lcd TV had a major screen bleed  and to replace it it would have come to just under $4500, lucky it was covered by warranty so i got a brand new Tv but it looks like it's another product where its cheaper to buy a new one than fix it , so make sure you have insurance for accidents like this .

Common sense is not as common as you think.

As a majority of these problems are sorted by insurance, there is no incentive for the manufacturers or importers to have in place a way to deal with spare parts like that in a cost effective manner.

Also consider that the TV has not been made for ages now, so somewhere someone would have had to bought extra panels (which are normally the thing they have the most trouble getting the quantities of) in a warehouse somewhere, losing value, costing to store it etc - whereas they would have made money sticking it into a case and calling it a TV and putting it on the shelf.

Best case is you find an identical TV on trademe with the electronics blown and swap them over and hope for the best, but I think plasmas have all sorts of calibration to the panel when they are set up so I doubt you will have any joy there.

Plus it might have the menu for BOY burned into it like one at the warehouse near me does.

Our 46"rear Projection TV got broken a few years ago by kids playing with the Wii and not putting the wrist strap on.
They bowled the ball and let the Wii remote go and it went straight into the screen, looked much the same as your broken picture.
We don't have the Wii anymore.. Sold it the next week on Trademe.

To get it fixed was $1980, i know it wasn't plasma but its probly about the same costs.
I had insurance so took the payout instead and went and bought a new Plasma TV for 4,000.
I got the quote from TISCO, they fix tv's

Its probly not worth fixing though with the price of new ones these days.

Repair is always an option, call the Samsung customer care link on 0800 726 786 and have a chat with them. They are extremely helpful and will be able to explain your options for repair and the likely cost involved.

This option will mean you will need to transport the television to the nearest Samsung service centre (I believe Next Electronics service Samsung gear) so depending on where you live this could be an expensive option.

On the other hand, a little birdy tells me that a certain LG 50" plasma television will be $999 as of next week at a recently popular electronics retail chain...
