Actually going the individual route might not be a bad idea if the speaker packs are not on sale any more. Personally I love the 9.6's and would highly recommend these to anyone.

If you can buy the individual bits for that $1700 mark then it might be worth looking down that road.

The wharfedales are known to be sensitive to placement (even the 9.1 with its front-firing port) which may have coloured the sound and made it more 'boomy'. Some speakers also just sound good or bad to each individual and in a given environment. Pays to listen if you can, and even better, to have a home audition.

Good luck with whatever you end up purchasing!

Gambit, I got the Wharfedale Diamond 10 Home Theatre pack for $1800 from HN about 6 months back. 10.6(?) fronts, 10CS centre, 10.1 rears and SW150 sub. Good pack, sounds good in my setup. Front speakers need to be about 200mm away from the wall on at least a 10deg angle to prevent the boominess people complain of (instructions say this!) and a large granite/marble slab under the sub if normally on a carpeted floor make the bass from the sub a lot more defined and tight. :)

Hey Rollux,

Thanks for your post on speakers and the sub
Regarding the Sub would wooden floors be ok?
I have no carpet anywhere in my house.

Cheers

I would imagine wooden floors would be great in some respects - however they may allow the bass to carry throughout the whole house. If you get another amp get one with an auto calibration setup to try and tune out some the resonances that carpet normally dampens

Most good stores will allow to to take them home and try for a day or two to audition
(you'll have to leave you credit card details tho)

Yeah i've been looking at a few amps on the net and will probably eventually go for a Pioneer with the mcacc?  set up system plus they are nice and shiny so would go well with my Panasonic plasma.

If you look on trademe user johnny270  is John from paul money. I was going to get the
Diamond 9's but he offered me the Diamond 10's for a little bit extra last year. If you tell him what you need i'm sure he'll list it for you at a good price.

I picked up a pair of 9.6's for $700 from HN a while ago, which I thought was a good deal.

That is good news!

Think he needs to run them in for about 50 hours before he can comment.

Got it all going now and looks really good in the lounge with the telly. The 10.6 fronts don't seem to be getting much bass but is that because of my reciever or because they are not bi wired?
The sub sounds great with movies and music and i wish i had a newer reciever so i could get HD  sounds but will have to wait a bit.Very happy overall but also know that things will improve when i get a new amp.
Also in the manual it says the 10.1s should be set to small. Is that correct?

Thanks.
