Do you have the Owner's Manual for the Infinity?  I was just looking at it online and it does say that if your source has only a single sub output you will need a single male to double female Y connector, then run a pair of RCA cables to the Low Frequency L and R inputs on the sub:

"When using a single subwoofer, you MUST use a pair of stereo low-level leads from your preamplifier’s outputs ... If the preamplifier has a mono subwoofer output, you’ll also need a Male-to-Female “Y” connector to split the mono signal to the subwoofer pair".

Unfortunately, the manual does not contain a proper "troubleshooting" section - only this advice:

"If the subwoofer sound is distorted, stops playing or otherwise seems to be malfunctioning, first determine if the problem is in the subwoofer or the wiring and/or other audio components. If the problem also affects the satellite speakers, the cause is most likely in your electronics. If it is only noticed in the subwoofer, make sure that all connecting cables are correct and in proper working condition. Make sure the subwoofer is plugged in and turned on".

Another option is that you mentioned you were using it for music. If you're only using it for music, perhaps try connecting your amp's speaker terminals to the sub's high level SPKR In terminals, then connecting the speakers to the SPKR Out terminals, and seeing how that goes...

That might explain why it sounds a bit flat not much bass for being at half volume. I will get the y connector tomorrow and try that.

On another note I tried meg/PCM setting again and the sub works. Given I only have 2.1 I don't need the Dolby from the mysky. Which is great because I like being able to control everything from the mysky remote when watching tv

A couple of things you might try on the Sony receiver are:

1. Set the speaker pattern.
Press AMP MENU on the remote, then arrow up or down until you get to SPKR and press Select or right arrow to enter the Speaker menu. Arrow up or down again until you get to PATTERN, then press Select or right arrow to enter the Speaker Pattern menu. Finally arrow up or down again to select 2/0.1 which matches your speaker configuration as I understand it (two front speakers and a sub, with no "high front" speakers, centre speaker, or left/right/rear surrounds).

2. Check the sound field setting.
Press the SOUND FIELD +/- buttons on the remote to select different sound field settings. If you have two channel stereo selected (2CH ST) there will be no sound from the subwoofer.

3. Check levels and connections using a test tone.
Press AMP MENU again (as above) and arrow up or down and select the LEVEL menu, then aroow up or down again and select T. TONE. Then arrow up and down to select AUTO xxx where xxx will represent each output channel - FL, FR and SW. If you get no test tone through the sub, there may be a problem with the sub or the cables, but it could mean a problem with the sub output channel on the receiver.

Thanks for all your help Andrew, it's definitely sounding better now, but I will still get the y connector tomorrow, to connect it as it should be
