Hi

I have DSR-600 Series decoder, could it also upgradable?

If not, could SKY change my decoder to model of my choice?

The DSR-600s won't support component output. I checked with SKY CS and was told that you can book a decoder upgrade with them for the standard $40 fee. You might be able to get the SCART-component cable from the technician at the same time, which would offset the decoder swap cost.

Im new to Sky and I have been through 2 decoders in a week and now have the Motorola DTH335-4 which sounds like not upgradable to component out. :-(

My issues where getting all the gear running into my Sony Wega with only 2 scart plug inputs and only one had full colour. I set the decoder to RGB and have finally a excellant picture - scart to scart

There are 8 SKY decoder models plus the MySKY PVR. All decoders have two SCART outputs (nominally TV and VCR). One model, the Pace DSR2000, has a separate S-Video DIN-style ouput which disables the S-Video outputs on the SCART.

The SKY website has an online knowledgebase under the 'online help' label at the top. If you don't find an answer it will let you send an email through to a CS team. This can produce better results than calling by phone.

The Motorola DTH335-4 (also called a 5516 for its processor) will support component output on the SCARTs when it is upgraded to the 00340 software. This is scheduled to happen on the 19th of this month. The only Motorola which will not support component is the 310.

I'm going to call SKY CS this afternoon, may I know which particular decoder model should I ask for upgrade?

My TV set doesn't have SCART input but has Component.

Agreed, their customer service people are brilliant. They may take a couple of days, but you will eventually get an real answer from them (as opposed to a generic template from similar sized large companies).

I have one of those nice new compact white boxes. I don't think it has component outputs on it. But i don't mind, as it's super fast compared to the old black pace boxes.

I'm not sure that you can ask for a particular decoder when booking. Most new decoders being installed are Pace DS230s but you might also receive an older decoder that has been recycled into stock.

As you have component input on your TV I think that you should make this known both when booking and to the tech when he/she arrives, i.e. that you would like a decoder which will output component when it receives the new software. Ideally the tech would hook you up with a cable which has both component (for when it is available) and whatever other input your TV can take (S-Video or composite) to keep you going in the meantime.

Yeah, it's a DS-230, but it seems to have no component, only 2x SCART ports as well as 9mm audio out. No big deal really, as I don't use it anyhow. I notice my firmware is still on 320 though.

None of the Sky boxs have physical RCA's for component, it is fed out the TV SCART connector, the Green channel carries the Y circuit, R carries the Pr, and B the Pb.

As Manaia stated the DS-230 will support component latter in the month, if you wish to use it then you can get a simple $15 SCART adaptor from Dick Smith that will give you the component RCA connectors. Or you can get a complete SCART connector and 1.5metre lead to RCA's for both audio and component from jaycar (WQ7255) for 40odd bucks.

Lots of good stuff here. Does anyone have or made up a list of Sky decoders that are avalable as the Sky online help does not say what model numbers just Mot and Pace.

Even a timeline of make and models.

Would be great for someone to add this info to site or blog as a referance as I searched and could only find snippets that didnt say as much info as added here.

Also wiring configs good be a dood reason to start your own blog or even a new forum here under Video & Audio titled Sky as mentioned no site like this I have found in NZ.

Ive got mine up and running thank god after all these years, it does look better but please Sky give us Hi Def TV through HDMI

Based on Manaia's responses elsewhere I have complied the following.

Pace:
DSR2000, DS-230, these will support component, the first has already been updated, the latter will be latter this month.

DSR-620-GM, these will not support component, but will receive the firmware update, but will not implement component video.

Motorola/Zenith
DTH-320-4, DTH-325-4, DTH-335-4, these will support component, updates for these are expected on the 18, 11, and 19th of Oct respectively.

The DTH-310-4 will not support component, but will get a firmware updated effecting other updates (except for component video) on the 10th of Oct.

The new firmware is indicated as 0340 in the diagnostics page, this replaced verison 0320

I called SKY CS and they're going to upgrade decoder to DSR-230 next Thursday.

I really hope DSR-230 upgraded to support component by Thursday.

One more thing, I'm going to buy 16:9 TV soon, does SKY decoder support wide mode or should I set TV as 4:3 mode to watch?

Hello

I have mine set to 16:9 as a lot of stuff on sky like movies etc is in widesreen format - you tv will adjust automatically back for other programes.

Forgot to add mine is a 36 widesreen Sony so the decoder is best set for mine to 16:9
